Retro Rib

A versatile, unisex sock from Evelyn Clark. So nice, that I did it twice and then twice again!

Evelyn Clark is one of my all time favourite designers. This pattern is great. It's easy to remember and fabulous to knit. The effect is also great for variegated or non-variegated yarns.

...love that rib! ..

Project Notes

1. I've done a spiral technique, alternating the variegated yarn with the solid yarn on every row.

...spiralling yarns! ..

2. You get the variegated look but it's significantly toned down. Here's a close-up of one the colours using the spiralling vs. a sample without.

...Swatch .. ...Swatch ..

3. Even this close-up scan of the sock. I would definitely use this technique to tone down some of the overly bright variegated yarns that I have and mix and match yarns and to reduce the cost of knitting with some of the lovely variegated imports that I get from the US.

Amelia

Amelia longingly stroked this yarn so many times that I had to arrange a covert operation to purchase it. Rather than just give her the yarn, I wanted to make her something from it and it was getting close to her birthday. Since I was with Amelia at the time, I slipped away to buy some patterns and paid for the yarn. Carol then packed the yarn and slipped it to me when Amelia's back was turned. I took the yarn with me and did most of the knitting when I was up in the lake district. I was going to mail them to Wales when Amelia was away, but I developed cold feet and in the end mailed them to her London home. Don't know why, but was frightened of socks getting lost in deepest darkest Wales (and probably concerned as well at potentially misspelling the Welsh town. Have you ever written Welsh addresses, it's a very complex language using what alarmingly appears to me to be very low ratio of vowels to consonants ... I can assure you that French was equally daunting with waht seems like at least 30 tenses, when in chinese, one doesn't need to worry about conjugation)

Regia stretch is highly recommended if you have any doubts as to the size of te recipient's feet. It's really stretchy so very forgiving to even the widest of feet. Pity that the colour choice is rather limited. It's not as soft as the other blends, but it's still nice and does soften after washing.

This were made as a birthday present for my father-in-law. I love the way this pattern looks, I just think it's kind of boring to knit.

I also find photographing this yarn to be very difficult, but it's lovely, trust me.

I love this yarn and I love this socks... knit in all greens during my annual holiday, this year in Andalusia.

Sock worked all through Spain

The stitch pattern takes on new life when worked in variegated koigu

as opposed to the simple stocking stitch. Humble but much loved.
