Mossy Socks

I'm a bit ambivalent about moss stitch, even though I know that it is a much loved stitch for many designers. Moss stitch is great for borders because it's firm and doesn't roll. Texturally interesting, although a pain to knit, here's a little pattern that I'd put together to incorporate a moss stitch panel into a sock pattern I thought this sock so nice, that I knit it thrice.

I purchased a bunch of grab bags from Patternworks ages ago. I matched as many as I could and then got together and matched up more skeins with Rowantte Jill. At that end there were still a bunch of odd skeins, so I though to figure out how to get a sock out of a skein with some heel and toe complements. Voila the mossy sock was born.

Project Notes

1. These were done with 66 stitches and a 6 inch leg. It was nervous business trying to figure out if my estimates were any good. I kept trying opn the darn thing just to be sure.

2. I had to cheat a little bit on the toe to get the sock long enough.

I love the colours, bright and vibrant... but I dove into this sock using the previous sock as a guide. This was another attempt to make a 1 skein + oddments socks from the Lorna' Laces stash.

Project Notes

1. 66 stitch cast on/ 64 stitch foot and 5.75 inch leg ...Success!

2. See, no cheating on the toes!

The yarn was a bit thicker than Lorna's laces and very lanolin rich. I only cast on 50 stitches. After a wash the yarn did relax but still wans't all that soft. The beauty of the yarn is in the flecks and of course, this is a boot sock yarn so you wouldn't expect it to be as soft. It's a very tightly plied wool.

Project Notes

1. The flecks are just gorgeous

2. I cast-on using 3.5mm but knit the entire sock on the 2.5mm. It was not an easy yarn to use and the stickiness off the lanolin made this take a lot longer than usual.
