Bell-Ease Socks

I started these socks as a make-up exchange present for the Rowan 2003 Embellishment Exchange. One of the participants had to drop out unexceptedly due to health reasons, so to avoid disappointing her recipient, I decided to fill-in. This Opal had been sitting in my stash for a long time, but it was hard to find a pattern that would really suit it.

The pattern was originally written for worsted weight yarn, but I added a few extra repeats so that I could use sock weight wool. I find worsted weight wool to have limited use, since the climate in the southeast of England is too mild to generally wear heavy socks.

Project Notes

1. Cast on 72 stitches, 2 inch cuff, reduced to 70 stitches on the foot. Pattern carried down the fool.

2. This is a stretchy lace pattern. It was easy to memorise and was a quick knit.
