Limbo Socks

You know how Monet went through a period studying waterlilies? I'm in my rib phase at the moment, as I try out various ribbing for my socks. These are in garter rib, easy to memorise, visually appealling (although I must add, more appealing in DK weight than on fingering) and suitable for men and women's styles. I thought this sock so nice, that I knit it thrice.

Nice interesting pattern that's easy to remember, stretchy and fast to knit. 2 balls of the limbo was really pushing it I had less than 2 meters left.If you have any doubts, get the third ball, hate uncertainty, then buy 3 balls of yarn to be on the safe side. I bought this yarn when I saw it in Seaport Yarns when I was with Valentina and Kay. I knew that I could had probably found it a little cheaper in Europe but I impulsively bought it anyway. I love these socks, but don't think that the 100% wool is going to wear all that well.

Project Notes

1. DK socks were done on 54 stitches, these socks are clearly fraternal. There wasn't enough yarn to even attempt identical ocks and looking at these socks, I honestly cannot determine the pattern repeat in the patterning. I conserved some yarn by decreasing to 50 stitches on the foot.

...such vibrant colours! ..

2. I cast-on using 4mm but knit the entire sock on the 3mm.

I love the blues, violets and slash of green in this yarn. I thought that I would get more mileage for this yarn, but I ran out about 3 inches from finishing the second foot, so I had to get more yarn. Unfortunately, the dyelots were very different. Yarn softened up a lot of after washing.

Project Notes

1. Fingering weight socks were done on 72 stitches, these socks are clearly fraternal as well. The joining of the second skein was very obvious. The colour vibrancy is very noticeable. decreasing to 50 stitches on the foot.

Vintage Annabel Fox Yarn, left over from the Wessex sweater. I unearthed it and knit it up for another pair of soft squishy socks. The yarn is about 10 years old, mostly fine. There were less than 2 balls in the loden so I used some of the aubergine for heels and toes. Because the yarn is 100% wool, old and been in storage for years, I put it in the microwave, wrapped in newpaper for 1 minute to make sure that it there was any insect damage, all the larvae would be dead.

Hubby

I love the color. Hubby loved it too and thought it soft and wonderful. It was not fun to knit. I found myself splitting the stitches more often than I would had though possible and not catching it for about 10 rows. Upon finishing them, I realised that they would also have to be hand washed.

Hubby does like them very much and they will keep his feet warm, so it is worth the effort... really.

Tiur is a sportweight yarn, so I had to adapt the pattern slightly.

Project Notes

1. Sportweight yarn done on 60 stitches. The foot is done on 58 stitches.
