Lacy Sweater

I fell in love with this sweater that was offered as a member's exclusive pattern on the Rowan International Members Forum. It's got lacy sleeves, lacy edging and a raised flower motif set of in reverse stocking stitch. The knit-along hosted at All Tangled Up , allowed several knitters to get together and modify this pattern to suit their tastes.

Several members also upsized the design, by increasing the length and width to fit older children. Well done to Rowan for selecting this as a free pattern and well done to Zoe Mellor for providing an interesting and fun design to knit.
This pattern is also offered in the Adorable Knits for Tiny Tots book, recently published by Zoe Mellor.

Easy and fun pattern to make. The most fiddly and difficult part was picking up the stitches from the lacy edging to start the body. I found that by following the pattern, I ended up having a lot of bunching on the hem. So, I've made a few modifications and repeated the lacy motif for 12 times instead of the 8 times instructed in the pattern. I would also had suggested selvage stitches on the sleeves, to make the sewing up a bit easier.

Most of the knitters did not like reverse stocking stitch for the sweater body. You need very regular tension for that to look good. While some of the knitters did the motif on stocking stitch, I though Jill's recommendation of setting the flower in a reverse stocking stitch box to be great at getting stitch definition and reducing the amount of stocking stitch.

Project Notes

1. I made very few changes to pattern, the most significant was using stocking stitch for the body and by setting the flower in 3 rows x 3 stitches of reverse stocking stitch.

2. I added 4 addition repeats to the lacy edged on the front and the back. This way, I picked up *1 stitch, then 2 stitches * across the lacy border. The edging is very flexible and it didn't bunch.
