Kerry Blue Shawl

This is a fairly easy lace knitting pattern, using repeating motifs, knitted outwards from a cast-on of 12 stitches. If you want to knit this shawl, check the errata page first. There are a lot of corrections... nothing that a more experienced knitter can't deal with on the fly, but too frustrating for a new knitter.

I was drawn to making it from the blur in the book when the write talks about having her Kerry Blue for years, toting it along on the airplane to double up as a blanket. The words on well-used and well-mended made me want to have one too, a globetrotting shawl.

Kerry Blue is a much more substantial shawl than Tina. I wanted a 'workhorse' kind of shawl so I chose this dark earthy green that would resist stains. With a heavier wool, this shawl is meant to keep you warm. The wool is still soft enough to snuggle under and light enough to just throw in a bag. Kerry Blue is meant to be a globetrotter... I hoe whoever gets her, takes her around the world, the way that I'd intended to. I also hope that she brings in some money to benefit all those people devastated by the hurricane.

I couldn't find a lot of detailed photos on the web, so I thought to document Kerry Blue for prospoerity. I'd actually not seen any really detailed photos before I started knitting this.

3.Shell - very graceful pattern... can be a bit annoying since it's easy to mess-up the yo's.

4.Edging - the edging was a crocheted off edging. I've never used it before, but it's supposed to be fast and not use too much yarn. I cannot attest to speed, since I am a rotten crocheter... worst than a beginner... more like a surly child. I think that I could had probably done this faster without the crochet hook.

This is pre-blocking. See how the edging curls. I have my doubts as to whether blocking will cure this,

This is how she looks in the blocking stage. Each little loop pinned out. I had to use 3 boxes of pins to pin this thing down.
