Rumours had it that the original sample of Icarus was knitted in the Misti Alpaca, which is one fine yarn. It's much cheaper that the Suri alpaca featured in the magazine. You only need 800 meters so the financial investment for the project is also very low. The shawl is so delicate but be warn there is a lot of stocking stitch to work through (yawn). This was made for the Rowanette Home & Hearth Exchange 2006.

The pattern was very well writtened and I just followed it to a tee. I think that there was about 10 meters of yarn left when I was done so if you find that you are consuming yarn too quickly, make sure you have an extra ball, just in case.

I knit this during the heatwave and is was murder. Alpaca is a really warm and hairy fiber and I had to give this shawl a good wash as it had been knitted with sweaty hands.

Time for the big stretch

Project Notes

1. Here's a close-up of the neck edge. It's much simpler than the one used by Evelyn Clark in most of her neck down shawls.

2.It's a very light and frothy fabric

3.The feathery bits only come alive after blocking.

The artistic shot... by my mauve-y hydrangea. Hydrangeas are one of my favourite plants. Beautiful heads of flowers, adaptible in all type of aspects and pretty too.
