Cotton Candy Cardigan

All the lure of denim from Rowan's Denim people and a need for a gift for my little nephew, who had turned 1 in April. I dug through my Rowans and found this adorable cardigan. It's a quick knit, even if the button band is fiddle to put on and you have to knit extra to allow for denim's shrinking factor.

Stripes really do go faster! All the yarn is from stash as I am following Lis on her 'Knit from Box' or in my case 'knit from the wool room' destashing exercise.

Although the stitches looked a bit loopy and droopy when worked on 4mm, it's OK, because one you wash it on hot and dry it, the shrinkage takes care of all the looseness and the stitches look wonderfully even.

The only bad thing about this yarn is that it splits. The ecru is much harsher to work with than the blues. The dying process must do something to the yarn.

The pattern is simple and the stripes very motivating. I didn't like the moss stitch, but I never really like my moss stitch. THe shrinking process really did even out the stitches and create the most even stitches.

Project Notes

1. I usually never cast off the neck, prefering to pick-up stitches. It doesn't work with this design. You should knit and sew the collar on separately. Believe me, I tried, 4 times, I couldn't get the collar neat no matter what I did.

2. It's so easy to count stripes and mattress stitch stripe designs.

3. It's a bit big on my nephew, but no doubt, he'll grow into it. Chinese people never buy clothes to fit children,

4. ...and given that it's nearly summer, a little bit big is not a bad thing, since it'll be good for the autumn. Although, Kris is only 13 months, the 2-3yo size was not enormous on him.
