Charleston

A satchel style bag, knitted in silk with beads and twisted cord handles. The original pattern used sequins. The pattern instructions are written for knitting on straight needs, I've reworked my bag to use 4 double pointed needles and I've increased the numbers of stitches by 1 repeat so that the bag was large enough to hold a pari of ladies socks.

I like this pattern so much, that I've made it several times. Here's another bag made using Rowan Glace. Also knitted in the round, but no extra repeats.

Project Notes

1. I couldn't find sequins with a big enough aperture, so I just used some beads that I had from my stash. To estimate how many string without counting out the number of beads, I strung 50, measured the length of beads on the yarn and multipled by 12. I then just strung beads until the length of beads was 12 times the length of the first 50 that I strung.

2. The pattern is written for straight needles, but I used double pointed needs to avoid sewing the seam.

3. I put all the left over beads onto the twisted cord.
