Chart vs. Long-hand ...the results
I have to say, I was a little surprised by the results. As a group, knitters prefer charts to written instructions by a factor of roughly 4:1. (411 vs. 109). I wasn't that surprised that charts won out or that the upper age groups had a higher portion of knitters that preferred written to charts.
| 15 and under | 2:2 | |
| 16-25 | 11:3 | |
| 26-35 | 11:15 | |
| 36-45 | 101:19 | --> 5:1 |
| 46-55 | 114:31 | --> 4:1 |
| 56-65 | 96:33 | --> 3:1 |
| 65+ | 10:3 |
I was surprised that, so few people in the 26-35 category voted/read my blog. I didn't get enough voters in that age group to really draw any conclusions.
So, designers, make sure that you include charts and written instructions. where possible. You need to cater to 80% of the population and 20%, is rather a large population to not cater for!
