Happy New Year!

The last FO of 2009, a little dress knitted in Phildar Partner 6.

Thank goodness that I much prefer working on small needles, because I don't think that I could afford to be a big gauge knitter. This little dress, sized for a 10 year old, was cast on, on Christmas and was cast off on 28 Dec. I spent the evening sewing in the ends and then doing a very light block.

The dress was worked on 4.00mm and 5.00mm needles. It really did zip along. The yarn is very soft and spongy, but it did annoyingly split like mad. The softness also meant that it's looking very slightly worn, even though it's only been handled by me in the knitting process (and M., who's always fond of sitting on my knitting).

It's easy care, so should stand a wash and dry without any shrinkange problems (It would probably look like a rag though, but to a certain extent, a worn look can be quite chic for a cute child).

I'm a bit nervous that this dress would be too small, especially as French sizing tend not to be as generous and the recipient is tall and broad for her age (she's 7 and her dad is a big strapping fellow)… so, I'm sending it to her mom to measure up when she's out. ( I usually send parcels straight to the kids because what child isn't thrilled to get a parcel in the post?) Nothing could be worst than to give a too small dress to an already self-conscious 7 year old. It's actually quite shocking that children today are so much more 'aware' of their sizes than when I was growing up. It cannot be healthy to start looking at food at as a bad thing, at such a young age.

..anyway goodbye 2009 and hello 2010. Happy New Year!

that dress is very cute and i think any seven-year old in their right mind would be absoulutly thrilled to get a darling little number. Your right i remember being vey self concious when i was about that age (i.e. i'm only fourteen) and it really does affect how you look at food, like there for a while i was struggling with some eatring disorders, but that was before i discovered chocolate covered petzals and now i'm happy to say that i now have a hard time restraning myself. Any way Happy new year to you to and i hope it is filled with joy, cheer, and a whole bag full of good stuff!

Very cute Dress! I'm sure the little girl will be thrilled. You are right about the image thing. My 8 yr old told me she didn't like her puffy coat anymore because she said it made her 'look fat!' Yikes!
