Socks - lightning fast

When faced with Christmas deadlines, I remain an optimist. I knit the gifts that need to travel further first and the ones closest to home last. I factor in blocking and drying time. There are still loads of panic, but also progress as well.

These are the simply lovely lace socks from an old Interweave magazine. I've knit them before with a skein of Claudia handpaints, so I knew that I could easily get a ladies pair of out a skein Louet Gems (it's the sport weight one). I used to keep all my knitting notes in a binder, but now I have them all on-line in my blog,

This was a much more generous skein than the Claudia though, and when I realised that I had quite a bit left, I ripped back both feet and added another 15 rows to the leg. The legs here are about 5.5 inches.

The pattern was easy to memorise and knitting a leg of 54 sts and foot of 50 sts, meant that these went super-fast, even with all the extra knitting... if only the other stuff that I'm working on went as quickly

Beautiful socks, Polly. I think these look even prettier than the "Plumicious" ones, as the lace pattern shows up so well. Very nice work and what a lucky recipient!

They are gorgeous... I'm not sure I would have ripped back both feet... but the finished result is beautiful, so I guess it's worth it ;)

And I can follow you in the Christmas knitting optimism...
