I've started the highland triangle from Cheryl Oberle's Folk Shawl book. I love the interweave 'folk' series. Fascinating and inspiring stuff! My favourite is probably Nancy Bush's Folk Knitting in Estonia.
Not all the shawls in this book are too my taste. My preference is definitely to casting on a few stitches and increasing to casting on a gazillion stitches and decreasing. Nothing more disappointing that casting on over 400 stitches multiple times. You start turning into a babbling idiot (what adult can't count 400 sts?) cursing after ripping for the 3rd time or you simply give up.
I started with Stora 4 times, before giving up and tried the highland triangle.

Initially it goes fast and there's a lot of progress.

Now, I'm hitting the slow spot.. but this shawl is lovely. the yarn is a kid mohair, merino, cashmere blend...so strong and soft. it's really a pleasure to work with.
My least favour part is attaching the edging. Another week or so before I get there!
Your shawl is coming along very nicely. Love the color & the stitch pattern. I prefer knitting triangular shawls too as it's more interesting to see the shawl grows.
Posted by: Ann Lim at December 7, 2009 11:10 PMI am so envious! My one attempt at a shawl is still languishing, about 1/3 done. Yours is gorgeous!
Posted by: Brenda at December 4, 2009 01:05 PMI know what you mean about this book. I was just looking through it this evening. Not enough time for me to knit something from it for a Christmas gift along with everything else. Someday. /sigh
Your shawl is looking great!
Posted by: Sarah at December 4, 2009 05:59 AMOh that is so pretty, and what a beautiful colour. I feel for you about the edging, I much prefer knitting the edging as I go along, it seems so much simpler. But perhaps that is just me being lazy!
