German Twisty Socks

I always like having a more engaging pattern on the needles. These are from a German Inspiration Brochure (no. 74) that I bought ages ago. I couldn't find an English version and my German is rather limited to bitte, danke, schnitzel, kartoffel and Eine kleine Nachtmusik, so this was always going to be a challenge. The good thing is, there are charts. The bad thing (for me) is that the chart symbols are explained in German.

After, a few knit and rip session, I think I finally got it. Mind you, not understanding that I was going to have to increase sts was always going to end in tears, especially after finishing 5 inches and realising that there was just no way that the sock would go over my heel, short of surgically removing the heel!

We do not need a retelling of the original Grimm's Bro's Cinderella for a new pair of socks...but they are gorgeous.

Sorry I can't help you with the German but the socks look lovely. Hope you can fix the heel problem but not by chopping off your heel!

Looks like you're doing a great job.

they already look well advanced in the pattern, and lovely, so intricate. I'd be happy to help you with the pattern in german, really :o)

I have made almost identical socks (in 2007 I think), but the pattern was taken from a book, not the Scahenmayer brochure. If you have problems with translations, you can email me too, I understand written German well.

I could help you, too, considering that I am German. Just let me know

Wow! These look very intricate! I have never done cabled socks before, but think I might give them a go now that I have seen how beautiful they look!

If you are willing/interested in emailing random bloggers, Ute of Socks Street ( http://socksstreet.com/ ) is German, loves socks, and has very good English! I read her blog, and it's really inspiring. REALLY REALLY inspiring!

She's helped me translate a bit of pattern before so I bet she'd be willing to help you!

Two suggestions: one of the free online translators and/or take a look at the Drops website...there are term translations in several languages. Good luck!
