SOS-2008 #4 Finished

Ireland/N. Ireland Indie Hand-dyer
Are there really no indie hand-dyers in Ireland? helloooooooooo! gap in the market for someone in the Emerald isles!

Caught red-handed

Dang, I got caught out by Stacie for not writing about the start of #4. Actually, i did write about it, but didn't save the post, so in frustration, I decided to jump right into #5 and summarise the start of #4 with the completion. I've been working with some new technology as in the past month, I have managed to break a PC and a laptop. Most of the stuff has been backed up, but as usual, some things got overlooked. I just haven't had much time to get things transferred over and get everything set-up the way that I'm used to (and there are some differences between XP and vista.)

I started these and finished these while on vacation. I've been meaning to work through all the Nancy Bush patterns and thought to do Unst. Unfortunately, Unst is worked on 56 sts and in my experience, that's going to be far too small, so I improvised and added for more sts. All was going well...

that is, until I got to the heel flap and realised that by changing the repeat to 16 sts from 15 sts, I was not going to be able to center the pattern on the instep.

So, I ripped back to the cuff and changed the pattern, keeping one of the motifs from Unst.

Pair: #4
Pattern: Modified Unst from Knitting on the Road
Designer: Nancy Bush
Yarn: Colinette Jitterbug
Size: US Ladies size 9 with a leg of 6 inches
Needles: 2.50mm
DIfficulty: Intermediate
# of stitches: 60
Speed: fast
Enjoyment Factor 10/10!!! Yarn is fantastic and the pattern easy to execute
Started :27-Jun-2008
Finished:5-Jul-2008

I worked on these during woolfest and they were fantastic. I love the feel of the Jitterbug and the fabric is wonderfully spongy. Semi-solids are so versatile since they look good with most patterns.

Lovely! I was just worried that I had completely miscounted!

Polly, have you seen celticmemoryyarns.blogspot.com? Apparently she sometimes sells on ebay.

Those are lovely! I think I might need to a pair for myself. Thanks for the heads up on Jitterbug.

They look great - I think I might have to try making those.

Hi there,

*Tentatively puts hand in the air*

Yes, we are here and just getting going... The "Dublin Dye Company" is a co-operative of indie-dyers operating out of a workshop above This is Knit (a yarn shop in Blackrock, Co. Dublin). We launched a range of sock yarn at the Dublin Docklands Fesitval in June and we are currently researching further base yarns to expand the range.

Keep an eye on www.thisisknit.ie/blog for further updates! :) The yarns will shortly be available to purchase online via www.thisisknit.ie/shop

Thanks!

Lisa

Wonderful! But did you fear running out of the Jitterbug? I always seem to run short. My feet are a size 9, too.

Very nice socks. I hadn't realised that you were working all Nancy Bush patterns.
