I nipped up to Cumbria for Woolfest and attended the sheep auction in support of Farm Africa. Lea Stern had come all the way from the US to judge and to help with the auction. The knitted, crocheted and felted sheep were all fantastic.

Rachel aka Bo Peep displayed the lovely sheep

and we dug deep for this cause. A lady sitting next to me had mentioned that these stuffed sheep were going for more than the real sheep. Astonishing, really !
Naturally, I got into the spirit and managed to win not 1 but 3 lots. In the future, I'm only attending auctions with people that will actually stop me from bidding on almost every lot.... not egg me on. (Yes, Tessa, I mean you)

Now, that gorgeous big sheep was knitted and felted by a lady name Phyliss from Virginia. I know of 2 Phyliss'es in that region but was convinced that the Phyliss in question was a Rowanette... so I made sure that I won it. How many Phyliss live in the Virginia area and knit? I've emailed the Phyliss in question and I'm waiting to hear back. Wouldn't it be great if it was the Rowanette Phyliss?
And the SOS 2008/52 Pair Plunge Socks?
I also finished these when I was in Cumbria. The pattern is just a basic stocking stitch over 68 inches. The socks are for my dad and a little big for me hence, the slouchy display.

Those were cute sheep! Of course you had to bid on them. How cool that the person who knit them was a Rowanette.
I like the socks you knit for your dad. The unusual patterning is cool. I like them.
Posted by: Wanda at July 10, 2008 07:35 AMThe price of livestock and even fleece is ridiculously low at the moment, but it looks like you got a good deal with the little sheep!
Posted by: AmyP at July 8, 2008 09:40 PMAs Napoleon Dynamite would say: LUCKY!
Wish I could've been there (to help with the egging-on).

Posted by: Kay at July 7, 2008 06:52 PMHow on earth did I manage to miss you ?? I was there all day Saturday ! Hope you had as good a time as I did :0)
Are you going to Iknit in September ? I'll be there too !
So glad you made it to Woolfest, but so sorry to have missed you. You didn't admit to any stash enhancing purchases - did nothing other than sheep take your fancy??
Posted by: Helen at July 6, 2008 09:39 PMThey look great Polly, I'm sure your father will like them. I'm spreading myself thinly - am working on pairs 4,5 and 6 currently!
Love the little sheep, nearly as cute as the real thing!
Posted by: dawn at July 6, 2008 03:37 PMNeat sheep and nice socks. I'm still struggling with my first pair for SOS08 but I've crocheted a couple charity afghans in the same time frame.
