There's been a certain amount of craziness going on at work that has somewhat limited knitting/blogging/general computer time. I get home from work so completely brain-drained, that the effort required to even answer emails can be beyond me.
So, rather than deal with more thoughtful projects, I've just been working on socks...and not even complex socks, but generally, the basic stuff. With a little help from the lovely Rowanette Caroline, I'd managed to get enough of Jaeger MMM 4 ply to finish the Fancy Silk Socks for a child of 5 or 6 from Nancy Bush's Vintage Socks Book. These Weldon editors were really imaginative with their naming!

The pattern is lovely and the lace stretchy and accommodating. It's a much nicer pattern that the photo in the book would lead you to believe. The photo is a bit dark and the prettiness isn't obvious. I didn't bother with the scallop cuff because I thought that it would lead to a tighter cuff than I would like. These scallop cuffs can be a bit tricky to get right.. not at all forgiving like a 1x1 or 2x2 rib.

Somehow, all the planets managed to align themselves properly because the yarn that Rowanette Caroline sent, happened to be the same dyelot as the skein that I had. I was only short a few grams but alas, we all know that running short is a sure fired way to having a long standing UFO.
I took these photos late in the evening without flash and was a bit surprised at how the plum-miness of the purple was lost. The photos from here is much more indicative of the hue.
Lovely socks & I love both the lilac & plum colors - 2 different colors but the same yarn - the wonders of a camera!
Posted by: Ann at April 29, 2008 01:28 AMWow, you're right, they went from plum to lilac! Great socks though, the pattern is quite lovely.
Posted by: Tracey at April 28, 2008 08:48 PMLovely socks. I agree with you about the photo in the book - I'd skipped over them, but may have to re-visit.
Posted by: AmyP at April 28, 2008 03:34 PMLovely - the gods must be smiling down on your for the luck of the same dye lot. I love it when that happens - especially for such a beautiful color!
Posted by: Jennifer at April 28, 2008 12:17 PMVery pretty socks. I must do more than ribbed socks next month.
Posted by: dawn at April 27, 2008 07:36 PMDespite your distractions not letting you knit more complex patterns, your knitting is still beautiful. You always! knit such wonderful stitch patterns matched w. nice yarns. Ah! you always get my thinking cap going :)
Posted by: Terry at April 27, 2008 04:30 PMI miss that yarn, too. And I understand why you're knitting socks - it's about all I've been capable of for the last three months. At least I'll have warm feet come winter :-)
Posted by: Shanti at April 27, 2008 03:53 PM*sighs for the loss of Jaeger MMM as well*
I knitted these and regret making the pretty cuff, for just the reason you mentioned. :-)
