These are the fancy silk socks for a child of 5 or 6 from Nancy Bush's Vintage Socks. It's such a pretty pattern, especially worked in plainer yarn. I'm using the discontinued Jaeger Matchmaker Merino 4 ply in 701 Heather. (How I mourn the lost of a good, superwash 4 ply merino in a wide range of colors.)
So far, the only change that I did was dispense with the scallop-y cuff. While aesthetically pleasing, I generally find the scallopy cuff tend to make the socks difficult to get over the heel and not fit so well when you don't have the feet to measure against.

I had just under 2 skeins, so I weighed and split them before I started knitting

as luck would have it, I must had misread the scales, because the second sock came up short. I ran out of yarn about 4 rows before the toe decreases. So I weighed the first sock... 39g. .. I then weighed the second sock, 35g. How did that happen? I must had had a spec on my specs!
Anyway, Rowanette Caroline's coming to my rescue with a bit from her stash.... I'd always known that the Rowanettes were the nicest people.
