Dread

My knitting friends and I often laugh about the dreaded words in knitting patterns. You, know that ones like

1. ... and at the same time ...
2. ...stretch lightly and stitch into place ... or ... measure, stretching lightly ...
3. ... work as per left/right, reversing shaping ...

Well, if you're knitting, sylph, you'll be livng in dread, because all these phrases are used in this pattern.

Working the front is a bit tricky because you have to decrease for the front and sleeve side at the same time, but at different rates.

then you have to measure the band on the left front, which would them be sewn in place across the back, slightly stretched.... which would pucker if you're not careful

I love this kind of detail but I wonder how many more attempts need to be made to ensure that that the puckering goes away.

Well, at least, I have all the pieces knitted, so once I've sewn them together, and get the ruffles done, I'm on the home stretch.

Those really are dreaded phrases. I hate to see and at the same time or reversing shaping. Blech!

I know what you mean - most of those phrases make me cringe...

I do dread those lines. Especially since I have a bad habit of not reading the pattern before starting.
I bet your Sylph will look gorgeous though!

I don't like such instructions & recently had the same problem with a neck band which puckers. As I was using cotton, I cannot unpick it as the yarn splits - I think I have to grow my hair longer to hide the ugly neckline.

Oh yes, those are all phrases to make the blood run cold! Two out of the three are manageable, but all three at once are a sure sign that at some point, the poor knitter will be weeping and tearing her hair out in clumps. :-(

Yes, those are the dreaded ones. I commend you for tackling a pattern with all three.

Do you have a dressmaker's dummy upon which to pin the various sections together and prematch the edges (slightly stretched) before doing a large-stitch baste together ? Then you can proceed maybe with a slightly less tremorous attitude? In other words, is that a dummy upon which you posed Sylph-in-progress?

wow do you zoom... and know how to make the details matter :)
cant wait to see it on you!

It's #2 which fills me with horror. I think the 'slightly stretched' is just that - slightly, but I tend to overstretch. I have a wonderful Jaeger long jacket with uneven bands. Some day I'll rip and knit a sideways band!
Sylph looks lovely. Have you tried steaming out the pucker (before you rip back)?

That's put me off tackling it - if you are having problems.... I bet yours will look terrific, though!
