The Angle*

What the heck is a sylph? (1) A mythical creature, (2) A graceful, young woman.... ok, so, now I understand the mutton reference a bit better.

I've been making good progress on my Sylph.

Here is the back and the sleeves.

... yes, the sleeves, as in both of them.

So the questions:

1. Am I knitting it without the ruffles? No, my Sylph will have ruffles. Why? Well, Ruffles are hot, according to the Times and the Telegraph.

2. Am I lengthening it?
Yes, but I didn't intend to. I accidentally knitted about 6 or 8 rows more than I should had on the body and didn't bother ripping back.

3. Am I adding the eye and hook closure?
Probaby not, I don't like eye and hook closures because when it's not done up the hook has a tendency to catch on my jewelry.

4. Is the the twisted rib really worth it?

Yes, I think so. If you go with stocking stitch instead, make sure that you check your gauge. My twisted rib is definitely tighter and less elastic than stocking stitch, but defintely worth it, eventhough I mess it up fairly regurlarly

* The angle of this shot makes the body look a lot longer than it actually is. So, if you were thinking to lengthen it, measure carefully. I'm knitting this from stash and I have plenty of yarn to lengthen mine. I think, pre-ruffle, I would had used about 7 balls of yarn, but my yarn is Almerino DK and has slightly more meterage per ball than the suggested yarn.

I can't believe the speed at which you knit - how do you manage it. The back and two sleeves in 4 days - unbelievable!!! You appear to do other things in your life as well so I just can't fathom it out. It looks fantastic.

My gosh, this is growing so quickly and the colour is absolutely gorgeous.

Am I allowed to post a second comment? "Caviar" was the name of the color? Tis very apt -- and beautiful in the way it reflects the lighting: deep blue-green over charcoal grey. Another comment on the fastenings: I mentioned "frog" fastenings with I-cord loops. Here's another idea: crochet your own tiny ball buttons and loops. You did say you were thinking of taking a beginner's class in crochet?

Wow- that's fast & it's gorgeous. I have the same problem with twisted rib & had to frog a few times. Happy knitting.

oh that goes quick with you, and it looks lovely :-)

Instead of buttons and buttonhole bands, think about tiny "frog" fasteners and maybe extra fine I-cord trim . It is a beautiful sweater, and part of the appeal of the design is the style of front fasteners. Oh dear, Polly, how and where did you learn to knit so fast and unerringly?

My goodness! You are flying!

It looks stunningly beautiful. I'm certain that it will be an absolute knock-out when finished.

... I took a leaf out of your book and frogg a big thing that has been a major cause for guilty feelings... Thank you for giving me courage!

Go Polly Go! Nothing has been stopping you from clicking away this weekend! I worked out I need to do 10 rows a day (I'm doing 2 sleeves at once so thats really 20 rows) and I managed 2 yesterday.

But Luke's tank top is finished and fits perfectly.

It's zooming along, especially with that bottom bit and the twisted rib. You ought to be finished by the weekend?

good god woman you are smoking along on this sweater. I expect to see you frolicking in it this spring :)
