I've been good, plugging away at the Arctic Diamond Stole. I'm really keen to meet my goal of finishing 2 balls of yarn this month. All said and done, though, I'm gasping to start a garment. It seems like ages since I've made something for me to wear... well since last November to be precise. I'm loving the spring/summer cardigans. I have always preferred the lighter weight stuff (DK or finer) and spring garments tend to fit the bill better than the chunky winter knits.
So... here are the 2 that I've sort of narrowed my choices down to.
Sylph
One of my favourite features of Knitting Daily is the inclusion of the gallery. I love seeing how the garments look on people with different body shapes and varying ease. I really like the sylph cardigan when I saw it but like it more now that I've seem how flattering on real women.
So, I could dig out my precious Almerino DK to make me one too. I'll need to make the 4th size and will have plenty of yarn to do this. Too bad that it'll be probably too warm to wear when I finish it. I'm also plannong on replacing the hook and eye closure with a button band, so I'll lose a bit of the width. Finger crossed that it'll work out.
Modern Lace Henley
However, I then notice this on knitty. Isn't it just darling. It looks like it'll work up quickly too...especially if I do it in the round. I would probably change the collar and add long sleeves, but it seems like a perfect spring-y pull-over. Decisions ... decisions...?
I wonder what Trinny and Susannah would suggest, as according to their new shapes, I'm the ultra-flattering (not!) brick! So tell, me which would you do?
I like The Modern Lace Henley which is more elegant. The Sylph will be too girly for me because of the frills & may accentuated my not so slim middle. Hope this helps & not add to the confusion.
Posted by: Ann at March 13, 2008 02:59 AMI like Sylph better. I loved it when I first saw it, but was convinced it wouldn't work for me. When I saw it in the gallery, that really cinched it for me.
I think Sylph would work well for your shape too. It would help create curves, whereas the Modern Lace Henley does not have much in the way of shaping.
sylph is for a teenager and the henley is for a senior. You really ought to make something more suitable for your age
Posted by: KC at March 10, 2008 11:47 PMMake the Sylph.. the modern lace will make you look like a box.. it does on the model. (I think)
But how fun to study that trinny and sussanna-website. I could never wear the clothes they recomend for my.. hm.. assets. - I would be too cold and feel emberassed... But thanks for the link. :-)

I haven't voted, because I think you should cast both on and just continue with the one you are happy with at the moment. It might change from day to day. That is what I would do. Life is too short to get stressed over the number of WIP you have. Today I actually went out and brought some more knitting needles because all the ones I needed were in use.
Posted by: Diane A at March 10, 2008 09:41 PMLove your blog! You make me want to beam on over to London. I think the Knitting Daily galleries are pure genious! and they are getting even better now that Sandi is adding her comments. I was amazed to see how good the Sylph looked on everyone in the gallery - no matter what their size and dimensions. You should make it - I can't wait to see what yours will look like! Have you considered making little crochet button loops instead of the hook and eyes? It might give a similar effect to the hook and eyes , but be sturdier and also you could avoid having to work a button band.
Posted by: Penny at March 10, 2008 08:14 PMAm I the only one who doesn't feel the Sylph love?... Yes, I guess so. I voted for the henley. ;-)
Posted by: Beth S. at March 10, 2008 05:01 PMSylph without a doubt. Lovely and summery.
Posted by: Carol at March 10, 2008 04:05 PMI voted for Sylph. I think it would be so charming on cool spring evenings. It's definitely the perfect cardi for those, so I don't think it would be too warm too wear it once finished. Go for it!
*note to Polly- taking my advice may not be a good idea right now, I have had a major case of startitus hit me. ;)
Posted by: Tracey at March 10, 2008 02:12 PMI also voted for the Sylph. I think it would be much more flattering. And, since I was thinking of making it myself, I could see your FO prior to starting!!!
Posted by: Allyson at March 10, 2008 01:58 PMI' ve voted for you to finish your WIPs! I think I like the IK one best, it's probably more practical (and if you have yarn set aside even better). I'm holding off until I finish some stuff off, and see what Knitty, KH and the latest Studio book have to offer.
Posted by: dawn at March 10, 2008 09:40 AMI think the Sylph would be better for 'creating' curves than the Henley. The Henley is nice, and would be very versatile, but the Sylph would be really nice as well.
Posted by: PICAdrienne at March 10, 2008 08:03 AMEvidently, I'm a vase.
hmmmm.
okay.
I'm a short waisted vase.
When will they start making clothes for either of us?
oh, and I'd go for Sylph... b/c I think cardi's are more versatile. But do like Sandi suggests...make the body a bit longer so the peplumy bit is placed better
Posted by: Helen at March 10, 2008 01:48 AMI voted for Sylph too, isn't all that side shaping in lace going to be difficult to do in the round? No, not for our Polly.....
Henley doesn't look very lacey to me, more just textured....
Posted by: Jill at March 10, 2008 12:37 AMI think part of the attractiveness of "Sylph" IS the hook and eye fastening. It would be worn beautifully with a very light weight silk "T" shirt or camisole. Jeans, long skirt, gauchos -- just about anything would look great with Sylph for a topper. The Henley (lace)? Ehh.....looks more like a basket weave pattern than lace. It appears to have a stand-up collar (that may not lie flat when you want it to?)
Posted by: Bobbi at March 9, 2008 11:42 PMI love Sylph and would start it in a second if I didn't already have a ton of WIPs to finish. I would like to live vicariously and see you start (and finish) it. I think you would look great in it.
