Although we have recently been blessed with far less grey days, the weather is anything but spring-like. I'm still wearing 3 or 4 layers in the house and wearing fingerless mitts in my study.
Being able to see daylight when I get off the tube for work, is however a joy, after many months of dark skies.
Judging from the poll and one of the comment, either my tastes are 'mutton dressed as lamb' or 'lamb dressed as mutton'! A few people have written me off line about the potential frumpiness of the Lace Henley, not wishing to offend the designer or the model or the photgrapher(I'm really flattered that anyone might think that Pam Allen might wander over here...but it's not likely to happpen.) I would like to point out, that a few subtle changes, can make this look completely different. Rhian's made a few changes and look how great the design looks on her. I'm not harbouring any illusions that a 'brick' would look like that, but rather, I think that it can be adapted to work with many different figures.
If Sylph doesn't do it for you, because of the ruffly bits, then do you like it better without the ruffles. I rather like it beause it's so different from the things that I usually wear. I'm really not a ruffle kind of girl.
Now, the thrill of spring, makes me desparately want to work on something spring and what would be more springy that pink and green?
These are plain stocking stitch socks in Lorna's Laces's Knit Happens colourway using 2.5 mm. I worked a 2 inch 2x2 cuff and then started stocking stitch. Now, stocking stitch is really not a favourite stitch for me, but I needed a portable project and these fit the bill
The colours are gorgeous close-up but from a distance, it looks a bit muddy. I made several attempts to get this work with ripples, and chevrons, but in the end gave up. The socks just didn't have the give and elasticity to get over the heels and stay snug to the ankles.
I like Rhian's sweater better, since she added waist shaping to it. But I still prefer Sylph too.I think it would be a nice showcase piece that you might not wear every day, but when you do, it would be a bit special and garner some nice attention too. I think it would suit your figure, but perhaps make a tad longer, but that could be my bias for making it.
Posted by: Wanda at March 16, 2008 03:12 AMThe socks are great...the colors are kind of juicy and actually, perfect for Easter. Funny thing about the comment about the Lace Henley...I thought it might be a bit frumpy as well ...but, I might reconsider that thought.
Posted by: raina at March 14, 2008 02:44 PMI far prefer Rhian's version ! It's lovely and I think would suit you very well. I know what you mean about ss socks, they are a bit boring to knit, but I find that often with variegated yarns it's all that really shows the colours to advantage :0)
I hope to be down in London before too long so maybe we can catch up ?

Posted by: Heather at March 14, 2008 10:48 AMDid the yarn come with the skein(s) arranged so that you could knit two socks in tandem (on one circular)? I'm trying the process by using both ends of the skein. I wound two center-pull balls from one skein of Opal and decided to just knit-on with whatever color sequence appeared for each sock. I am now going to cut about a two-meter section out of one end because it created a relatively imbalanced, wide stripe of dull color at the very beginning of the sock. The color stripes on your current project are very pleasingly, and symmetrically arranged. Keep us posted, now and then, with your technique "secrets" -- pretty please?
Posted by: Bobbi at March 14, 2008 02:33 AMYes, the light outside at the end of the day is nice to have. I am curious about the plaid (I think) bag under your sock in progress. It looks to be a nice size. wider than most I've seen. Can you give a bit of detail on it? Measurements, how you came to it, etc. It's certainly got my interest.
Posted by: Terry at March 13, 2008 06:02 PMI keep thinking I've slept in as it's light when I wake up!
I still prefer the ruffled one. Jackie ES has some lace tops, under lace sweaters and casual wear.
