It feels like I've knit these socks again and again. Well, I have because they didn't fit the first time. Then, of course, the last 4 pair of socks for the hubbler were basic socks, tweaks on the Gentleman's Plain Winter Socks from Nancy Bush's Vintage Socks
The Jitterbug is a lovely springy yarn and a real pleasure to work with, and it unfortunately, made the St Ives feel even rougher by comparison. Pity about the poor meterage. I would definitely recommend getting 2 skeins for men socks or doing the heels and toes in something else to eke out a skein... because 2 skeins works out to be pretty expensive for a pair of socks.
Posted by atu at March 8, 2008 02:41 PM | TrackBackThe Jitterbug is really nice yarn to work with, it's true. To make socks for a man, with high cuffs, the yardage is very poor. That's a beautiul color you chose for your hubby's socks. I'm sure he's thrilled with the socks, especially since they fit this time! ;-)
Posted by: Wanda at March 9, 2008 04:31 PMbeautiful socks, i just bought some jitterbug and am going to CO soon. BTW have been reading your blog for around a year and i really enjoy it. also just relocated to the UK (St Albans) from the States so all your recommendations re: knitting will come in very handy!
Posted by: larissa McGoldrick at March 8, 2008 11:14 PMCould be the colorway (similar to your current stole) prompted you to finish up the "Jitterbug" socks? Spring is busting out early in my mountain terrace garden. I'll be having tulips, crocus, narcissus, and daffodils blooming soon (if the scrub jays don't eat the emerging leaf tips and blooms first). Happy Spring t'ye Polly!
