I'm really tired of working on dark colour yarns, so I cast on something new in a bright colour.
The pattern is the Arctic Diamond Stole from InterweaveWinter 2006**

I'm using Malabrigo Lace yarn in Sealed Wax. I love the colour and I love this yarn. It's really soft and delicious. I was concerned that the lace weight might be too fragile Fortunately, it's not and the slight varigation just looks glorious. I've got 3 skeins (thanks to Dawn for finding another skein in the same dyelot in her stash for me) and I plan to make this stole about 72 inches long. The pattern size is a surprising short 48 inches. While adequate to wrap around, I like my stoles longer, so that you have a wafty trailing bit. I've added 3 extra stitch on each side and am slipping the first stitch on every row to get a neater edge.
This is making me feel a bit guilty as I have loads of things to finish and I really should not have cast on something new, but what the heck... some lucky red for the beginning of the Chinese New Year. The sealed wax shade is a very chinese shade of red.

It's a slow project, requiring frequent referrals to the charts. I did manage most of this on the flight home...and yes, red does make me happy.
** This is one of the best Interweaves, there is the gorgeous Arwen Cardigan, the Nantucket Jacket, the Provincial Waistcoat, Venezia and the Wine and Roses Mitts.
Love the color & a belated Happy Chinese New Year to you. I have also just bought some Malabringo lace yarn & can't wait to get it.
Posted by: Ann at February 26, 2008 10:51 PMYours is the first one I've seen that really made me sit up and take notice. It must be the yarn! :-)
And yes, that's a fabulous issue of IK. I'm really surprised that Arwen didn't make it into their Best Of collection.
Posted by: Beth S. at February 26, 2008 09:52 PMI have been thinking about knitting this stole. It doesn't look like an especially difficult knit.
The Malabrigo is gorgeous. My LYS lady was trying to talk me into buying some. I was very tempted.

Posted by: angelarae at February 26, 2008 03:49 AMI have that pattern already to go w/ the yarn to do it. You may have inspired me.
I love your color choice, it's very vibrant, just what you need to shake off the winter doldrums.
Posted by: Tracey at February 25, 2008 04:48 PMLovely work Polly, as usual! Wouldn't expect anything else from you. Have you seen Donna Druchunas' book, Arctic Lace, some beautiful stuff in there, including this one.
Very pretty and wholly appropriate for Chinese New Year :)

Posted by: Debi at February 23, 2008 07:42 AMI adore that colorway. Sealing Wax is such a pretty color of the Malabrigo Lace, how could you resist it? Plus, as you say, starting something red is good luck for the Chinese New Year. It was fated to be started!
Posted by: Wanda at February 23, 2008 06:10 AMWhat a lovely red and that shawl pattern is so lovely. How can you resist. I love that Interweave too.
Posted by: Dianne at February 23, 2008 04:07 AMThat is really beautiful.
Posted by: Katie K. at February 23, 2008 03:13 AMwow, it looks amazing. The malabrigo looks lovely in that variegated solid colouring is beautiful. You've done loads!
Posted by: dawn at February 23, 2008 12:57 AMas always Polly... IMPECCABLE tastes!
Posted by: stinkerbell at February 22, 2008 09:30 PMOOOOooooooohhhhhh. Yummmy.
Now I want some. (surprise surprise).
I think I'll go back and play with my Interweave, and contemplate ordering MORE yarn I don't need. What a luscious color.
They SO didn't have any of THAT when I bought up Malabrigo lace-weight at Stitches last August --- I know, cause if they had... I'd have some here!
That yarn looks just the thing to cheer up your mid-February days.
