Seven

I wish it was possible to get an extension for Christmas. It can be such a fraught time of the year as we all dash about trying to get everything done. Somehow, I managed to eked out the time to finish these.

This is just a plain stocking stitch sock with the Admiral Be Druckt yarn which I couldn't get to work with any pattern. I knitted most of this when I was away in Budapest, mainly because socks are portable project. The sock mojo has not returned but faced with the prospect of knitting something not so inspiring vs not knitting, the sock's appeal grew leaps and bounds. The big advantage of stocking stitch was, I could read my book as I knitted. (A bit disappointing after Pillars of the Earth, but perfectly acceptable as a holiday read.)

So I'd managed to kint up 6 pairs of socks for my mom's christmas present, but I felt a bit of a failure. My revised goal was 7, based on Rowanette Jill's recommendation, but then I had an idea.

These are my Conwy socks, knitted last year... never worn, tucked in a drawer. So, I added them to the pile....

.....and voila... 7 pairs of socks.

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together.

How fantastic. I'm sure your mother will be thrilled with her socks.

I often wish for more time before the holidays, but then I realize, I would still be behind. lol

I can just imagine the tears of joy in your mother's eyes as she opens that gift on Christmas day, seven pairs of socks each holding a ton of love, fantastic! You are a truly wonderful daughter.

Ooh, you are a very good daughter - Conwy socks! Those were hard work, but lovely to wear!

Congratulations on achieving a 7-part FO!

these are simply fabulous! i am wondering if you knit the ribbing at the top with a smaller needle size than the cuff?

Now, if you can knit 7 pairs of socks before christmas, don't you think I could complete at least one?! The socks for my dad are coming along slowly and due Thursday. It's his birthday. Send some of that sock mojo my way!

I'm sure your Mum would have been just as happy with six beautiful socks but lucky her, she has a super resourceful and talented daughter! :)

Brilliant Polly, your mum will be so pleased with these. A BIG surprise!
For one fleeting moment I thought you'd reached your seven December goals...

ALL the socks are beautiful. I fear that if Christmas was postponed until April, we'd still be running late!

I'm planning to get World Without End on audiobook to listen to whilst knitting. Pillars of the Earth was a great book and I've read it about 3 times.

One of my friends reminded me the other day that there will be other Christmasses, so I'm passing it on to you, as you seem as frazzled as I am!

Lovely line of socks, BTW.

I want an extension too! Or at least some ready made gifts to pop out from hiding... congratulations on creating a beautiful gift for your mum!

You would make a great Snow White Polly, all the dwarfs would have socks for Christmas ;-) tee hee!

I've been reading your blog for a while but this is the first time I've written. I think your socks look great. I'm tempted to knit some myself but not this year!

How did you manage to read and knit at the same? I tried it earlier in the year but wasn't very successful!

Posted by: Doreen McLennan at December 16, 2007 09:21 PM

Cheat! :) But seriously, well done on knitting all of those socks for your mum, I'm sure she'll appreciate your hard work.

Posted by: AmyP at December 16, 2007 07:41 PM

Yeah, I remember your irritation with trying to find a pattern that would work w/the Admiral. I think the self-patterning yarn did an "admirable" job in cooperating with you once you decided to keep your "commands" simple! Beautiful socks! %^

Your Mum is one lucky lady.....

What gorgeous colors! Anyone would be happy to have any ONE of those pairs, let alone SEVEN! You are good to your mum. :)
