Thank you all for your suggestions on where I went wrong and in confirming that there was a boo-boo in the pattern. I've got to admit that I read your words and it still didn't sink in, so I've put the darn glove aside for the moment. I'm sure that if I don't obsess about it and sit down with a clear mind, it'll be crystal clear and I'm going to feel like an idiot for asking for help.
I suddenly realised that it's nearly the end of the month and I have not really been very good with meeting my goals, so I'm going to rummage around for a few WIPs to return to stash.
Top 3 candidates are:
Blueberry Waffle-

Danish Nattroje -

Alphabet Blanket -
The only issue, is I have to find them, they are in this house.. somewhere... and as ripping does not require pattern reading or simple mathematics, I'm sure that the sudafed will not prevent me from achieving this goal.
Posted by atu at November 26, 2007 06:45 PM | TrackBackI love the alphabet; please don't frog it! Please make it into a pattern that I can buy . . . please. I've been looking for an alphabet that I liked for ages . . . and I really and truly ancient and may never find one as nice as this one . . .
Posted by: Judith at November 28, 2007 10:41 PMI dreamed about your wips last night and I'm not even medicated. Just so you know, I made the Bliss duckies into a dpn case (cast it off, sewed the two side edges together, added a zipped top and lining), the lone sock I cut apart and made it into a pair by splitting the cuff into two and the foot into two and using them as bands in a plain sock. I finished the rectangular Birch and ripped the green toe up sock and the stretchy boucle one.
I'm hoping that by telling you this I don't have the same dream tonight. It's bad enough that I dream about my own knitting without starting on yours.
Posted by: Caroline M at November 28, 2007 11:50 AMOh, please spare the Danish nattrojer, it's so pretty! :-)
Posted by: Beth S. at November 27, 2007 08:12 PMHmmm. pity about the Danish Nattroje, I was looking forward to seeing how yours came out!

Posted by: meg at November 26, 2007 10:27 PMReally, Polly, I DO preview then post. But I still read that I am still in preview mode (after I thought I had previewed already. Make sense? Not today, heh? Ennyway, I found a reference for closing holes between the fingers, if you're still interested: Taunton Press, "Hand-Knitting Techniques from 'Threads Magazine", years published July 1991 and July 1993. pp 66-71. Debra Newton wrote a comprehensive article on "Handknitting Gloves". The relevant technique (a partial quote): "When starting a new finger, pick up stitches in the cast-on stitches of the adjacent completed finger (as shown in the center photo on page 69).
Sometimes a small hole will occur where the front or back meets the picked-up stitches. MAKE a stitch here by LIFTING a strand from the thread BELOW and Knit into the BACK of it, OMITTING or DECREASING one of the picked-up stitches." Hope this helps.
ps: I left a note several days ago on your email link re a book (NOT Threads) for which I'd like to find a new (free) home.
Thank goodness you worked out it was the pattern and not you. Hope you are feeling better now. I'm sticking to simple stuff now the doctor has said that I'm too ill to go to work.

The baby blanket is definitely a goner -- especially if some one were to try to teach the alphabet from the blanket! The design is actually worth knitting. Maybe the designer was having a Sudafed moment? %^
