It was a bit depressing working on stocking stitch socks, so I thought that I would divert myself my getting the 6th pair of socks that I had planned to make for my mom out of the way.

This is one of the Admiral Bedruckt ombres that I had bought when I was in Ally Pally, back in October. I love these ombres but I'm having a hard time picking a pattern that works well with this yarn.
I've made several attempts but only very plain and boring patterns seem to work...and I need something a bit more entertaining. So, what's a girl to do, but go to Ravelry and do a search on the yarn, and see what patterns other people have knitted up. I spent hours looking at all the beautiful socks people have knitted up using their Trekkings, but sadly, I'm still undecided.

Posted by: mrspao at November 16, 2007 09:28 PMravelry can be a bit time consuming (in a nice way). Have you seen the radar function in the forums section?
The socks look lovely, plain or otherwise. They'll be finished in a blink of an eye.
Try this Polly...

Also, if you can get your hands on a copy of Favorite Socks the Undulating Ribs look smashing in Trekking
Posted by: Debi at November 15, 2007 01:30 AMRather than try to find other patterns (with more "challenge" to them?) perhaps you might want to check Elizabeth Zimmerman's book "Knitting Withouth Tears". I think I remember in that book how to knit "afterthought heels", and even how to knit socks which entire sole can be replaced. Sometimes, all you need is a "new" technique to learn -- to relieve monotonous stretches. If EZ doesn't help, maybe the challenge of knitting a pair of entrelac socks might do the trick! The pair of entrelac socks that I knit were the most challenging AND most satisfying. They also fit neatly! No, entrelac isn't in EZ's "KwT". But, I do believe there are websites that divulge entrelac secrets.
