In hindsight, working on a large-ish secret knitting thingy whilst trying to maintain 30 days of consecutive posting, was probably not a very good plan. I can't show you what I'm working on but I can show you the yarn
It's a really luscious yarn. Blue Sky Alpaca's Suri Merino. It's so wonderfully soft. Like Rowan's Cocoon, it's one of these unplied yarns, which feel heavenly to the touch. Knitting with it however, can be a bit of a challenge if you don't pay attention. It's just too darn easy to split a stitch and not see the error for 10 rows. Dropping the stitch to fix it tends to result in more split stitches, so the only solution is to either rip back of poke it back into the knitting and hope that the blocking will sort it out...because I was once told by an experienced knitter that blocking sorts everything out. (I just haven't figured out how to block something smaller, but when I do, I know that I will ascend to the next level of knitting)
The yarn sheds like mad and with my predeliction for wearing black, one of my non-knitting friends had asked me if I've adopted a persian cat.
Now, I'm off to go weigh some more yarn. I'm hoping to be able to provide some better statistics for sock yarns sometime later in the week. I know that it's not perfect, but I do want to see if there's any patterns on which companies consistently sell underweight skeins.
Posted by atu at November 9, 2007 08:04 PM | TrackBackIt is very beautiful yarn though! I already have five cats so working with hairy yarn doesn't elicit such questions!
Posted by: mrspao at November 11, 2007 08:25 PMI have this yarn, and am having a dickens of a time finding a pattern for it. I started Starsky from knitty, but it was thin, and the gauge was off. It has almost no memory...
so what are you thinking of doing with it?
What beautiful colours! And it even looks soft!
Posted by: Maud at November 10, 2007 06:16 AMthe yarn looks really pretty and I'm sure is a dream to knit with.
Posted by: Wanda at November 9, 2007 10:41 PMI weighed the rest of my sock yarn and I posted the results and my theory behind the differences. I look forward to seeing the rest of your "weigh in".
Posted by: Dotty at November 9, 2007 10:33 PMthis is a horrible yarn. the stitches look irregular and it sheds badly and looks terrible after just one wear.
