This post is full of odds and ends and a plead for help.
Lilly
I've started Lilly and I'm having some doubts. Perhaps the Patons that I'm using isn't the right yarn. The Jaeger Roma is a much springier yarn. The design in the book doesn't show such large holes in the lace.
Those aren't yarn overs but are yarn round, so the fabric is more open than I had imagined. Tension-wise, I'm good... just not sure that I like the fabric.

I have to set this aside for the moment which is disappointing, as I really wanted to make this jumper from stash.
Forest Path Stole & a Gorgeous Freebie Nancy Bush Pattern
There's also been no progress on the Forest Path Stole this week. I need to pick this up again before I lose interest in it. Anyway, did you see the Piecework freebie for May/June? Don't you just LOVE these?
Help on Lorna Laces's colours
I've got some Lorna's Laces burning a hole in my stash. It's in the Knit Happens colourway, a bright pink with Kermit green. Most annoyingly, I can't seem to find too many socks knitted in it. Anyway, I want to make something with contrasting toes and heels. Does anyone know if the pink and green in the knit happens colourway is Carol Green and Pale Pink?

I think I know what's going on with Lilly. I've just been swatching it in Roma yarn, which is a lot more elastic than the Paton's cotton. But I don't think that's the problem - having Googled 'yfrn', it looks like it's a reverse yarn over, so you P2tog without taking the yarn to the front of the work after the previous knit stitch. My problem at the moment is the reverse of yours in that it's not giving a particularly open fabric (that and the stitch the yfrn creates is a swine to knit!).
I'm going to fight it a bit more because I thought the pattern was so cute when you posted it on your site that I've bought it and the yarn. I'll drop you another comment if I get a better result.
Posted by: Sarah at May 15, 2007 10:49 PMI'd be inclined to do a larger than normal swatch for Lily even tho you've already started her, and wash and block it to see what happens to the holes. A small swatch sometimes doesn't behave the same as a piece with some weight to it.
Posted by: catsmum at May 10, 2007 12:47 PMOh, that pic of the Norwegian gloves and the half-eaten sirupssnipp (the cookie) reminds me about Christmases in the past when my aunt and I used to eat those cookies and knit in front of the fireplace. I can almost taste them as I type this!
Hope you find a good solution for Lilly, the pattern is just beautiful.
Wish I knew about the shades of green and pink. As for Lilly, maybe go down a needle size and see what you think of it then. Good luck. I started my first real shawl. It is called a fir cone shawl and looks to be the same color as your Lilly.

Posted by: angelarae at May 8, 2007 01:47 AMDo you think the lace is more open because of the yarn overs? I'm thinking that by yarn arounds you mean when you have to have a yo between two purl sts, so the yarn has further to travel? Have you tried omitting to do the yarnovers and in the next row knitting/purling by picking up the yarn between sts? The yos would certainly be less open, but it might be too much of a pain to remember where they are! Roma is a little stretchy, isn't it, so the lacework would be less open than with this Patons.
Can't help you with the LL but I have some leftover Tickled Pink - it's not solid but looks similar on screen to this pink if you want it.
Ooh! Yes, please don't give up on FPS, I am really looking forward to it's completion.
I do love that Nancy Bush freebie as well.
As far as Lilly goes, perhaps you should try a different yarn, the fabric does look a bit more open than the picture.
well, having just finished 3 items in the patons 100% cotton and having just cast on (for whitney in ryc's classic cafe book) with the roma, I agree that they're really very different yarns... the roma is MUCH more springy. you will get a much more drapey fabric with the patons. having said that, I do really like the effect with the patons, I think it would make a lovely open summer cardi to cover a vest top on a hot day.
but if you're not liking it I would pull it out and knit one of your other choices with it, maybe the stocking stitch cardi from the older rowan book? or choose a pattern orginally knitted in cotton glace? better to decide now than finish & not wear it... good luck!
Posted by: sarah at May 7, 2007 01:52 PMAt www.wolhalla.nl are socks with horizontal stripes. They are in English too, just checked.
I love the green/pink quite cute.
i know the idea of knitting from stash is to reduce it rather than increase it, but how about just buying one ball of the Roma to do a trial knit and see how it compares to the Patons? I do like the colour of the Patons as it appears on my monitor, a lovely soft green.
I don't know what to suggest about the KH Lorna's Laces as I've never seen it in real life. Best of luck in coming up with a solution though, I think it is just crying out to be knitted up for spring.
Posted by: Louise at May 7, 2007 11:31 AMDo you have any All Seasons Cotton in your stash? It makes a great sub for Jaeger Roma although the yarn composition is different. It's the same sort of "round" strand of yarn you get. I've subbed that successfully in the past.
Having said all that I do think Lilly looks nice in the Patons, but it's not me who has to like it, it's you. x K
Posted by: Kathleen at May 7, 2007 10:17 AMOh, that's too bad about Lilly. Maybe try blocking the portion you've already knitted to see if it's too loose for you. Otherwise, you may need to try a different yarn. Or knit a different pattern with the Patons if you're focused on knitting from stash.
Posted by: Wanda at May 7, 2007 04:31 AMI know you want to knit from stash but as the commenters before me noted, the colors are neither Carol Green or Pale Pink, exactly. How about getting a second skein of the Knit happens and use one skein for the ribbing, heel and toe on each sock and the second skein for the "body" of each sock. That way each sock will match even if the dyelots don't!
Posted by: Debi at May 7, 2007 04:09 AMI bought some of this pink/green twist from knit happens. I ordered two skeins, they were not of the same dyelot. Sock yarn? I guess I should have been more specific.
Posted by: kitty at May 7, 2007 03:38 AMI had some of that for a while! Carol Green is not nearly as lime, more of a leafy color, and Pale Pink is, well, more pale, like a powderpuff. Pink Blossom would be a better bet, as it's a more hot pink. =) Hope this helps!
