Gardening
OK, I have to come clean. I'm sort of a big girl's blouse*** when it comes to gardening. I'm always wearing gloves and if a creepy crawly landed on me, I'm likely to run back into the house shrieking. This does make gardening a challenge when you have to weed or deal with infestations, but fortunately, the hubbler understands my bug phobia and deals with the nasty chores in the garden. I help where I can, but if a giant fly, 1/gaziollionth my bodyweight were to land on me, I'm afraid that I'm going to turn into a quivering pile of jelly.
***When I first arrived in the UK, my work colleagues took great delight in throwing these kind of expressions at me.
Forest Path Stole Update

I'm now on tier 11. I know that it looks exactly the sames as the last photo when I was on tier 7, but, now that I've memorised the motifs, it's really much smoother sailing. I know that I have mentioned that this isn't that interesting a project, and it's not, but it's not exactly boring either. The different motifs means that you are not stuck with a 'sea of stocking stitch or ribbing' . You're constantingly picking up, knitting or purling 2 together, etc. so it's not boring or monotonous. What I think by it not being that interesting is, there are only 3 motifs and stoles/scarves by the nature of their length require quite of bit of knitting and you know, there isn't that much difference in 8 or 10 or 12 tiers, so it just feels like you're not making any progress.
Setting a little goal like when I reach the halfway point, I can cast on something new, just encourages me to keep going esp when I get to a LOTV section ;-) The other thing that might encourage me along is a race... anyone want to race to see who's going to be done next?
I've been trying to decide what to cast-on when I get to tier 12 and I have rarely found myself so indecisive. I would like to make myself a DK cardigan, something suitable for work. All the designs recently catching my eyes are 4 ply. Following Amelia and Sherpa's advice, I had a rummage through my various books and have a possible short list. Although, I'm not exactly on a yarn diet, I'm determined that this project will come from my stash, either using some Patons Cotton DK in Green or some Debbie Bliss cashmere cotton.
My rummage yielded a few suitable candidates.

1. You would look lovely in Cheer. Mine's too short so I'd make it longer if I were to make it again. And you'd look lovely in it, regardless of what you think or "know" for that matter.
2. Sadie would look fab on you.
3. Lily is lovely too but I think that Sadie is nicer.
4. Flo is too boxy and the sleeves look a bit big. I'd steer clear.
Posted by: Amelia at April 29, 2007 05:05 PMI've seen several sweaters similar to Lilly lately, and they make me want to suck it up and knit a sweater already.
Your FPS is beautiful; you are very talented!
I start to fantasize about my next project at the halfway stage too, gets me on a roll to finish. Lilly is so beautiful, I can't believe there are none out there, go on Polly start a craze.
Posted by: Rebecca at April 27, 2007 08:44 PMYou're making great progress on FPS. You're all over the map with the cardis. I like Lilly the best. Still a simple, classic shape, but with a texture and a little lace at the bottom and it's already got buttons! I think it's a beautiful sweater.
Posted by: Wanda at April 27, 2007 07:52 PMLilly it is!
Posted by: Barbara at April 27, 2007 02:31 AMYou are a much stronger knitter than I am. My FPS is currently sitting in the corner on official 'time out'. It was too boring and I started to worry that I don't actually like the finished object that much and I don't have anything to wear it with.
So unfortunately I'm not going to take you up on the offer of a race! But maybe you'd like to try racing to finish before I pick mine back up??? : )
You're really not helping my wip list. Things were coming along swimingly and then you show me Lilly. I'm still gathering my summer tweed for Bianca! Stop it Polly, or I'll have to visit you with a blindfold on ;)
Posted by: Tracy at April 26, 2007 08:27 PMDefinitely Lilly - it looks pretty and not at all frumpy, especially if you choose green. Sadie is also a favourite because it is long, I seem to remember you don't like shorter garments, so while Flo has gorgeous raglans to tempt you I don't think its the right one.
The stole looks gorgeous.

Posted by: Sarah at April 26, 2007 11:30 AMDefinitely Sadie...it looks gorgeous!
The stole looks lovely, really does!
Posted by: Rain at April 26, 2007 11:10 AMI voted Sadie. I made that cardie exactly to the pattern, in black Rowan Wool Cotton, and it is the knitted item I wear the most. I love it! And the tie neckline is really flattering over a spring frock or a cami. Make Sadie! You won't regret it :D
Posted by: glittrgirl at April 26, 2007 09:50 AMMy vote went for Sadie which has been on my to knit list for some time. I just need more time. BTW, FPS is looking gorgeous!
I totally understand about the gardening and bugs. I have a composter which I regularly put stuff in but don't really want to take out because it's full of big, huge bugs. Yuck!
Posted by: ling at April 25, 2007 08:48 PMI like Sadie. The pattern looks great, but I would put in buttons too and perhaps add some waistshaping aswell.
Posted by: Monica at April 25, 2007 08:20 PMI voted for Lily too. Which Jaeger book is it in? I think you may have started a craze! Have a look in the new Debbie Bliss 'Special Family Knits' book too - there's a patern in there called something like Cabled Cardi (in green), that is soo cute. Mind you the book is £20.
Posted by: Sarah at April 25, 2007 05:07 PMMia! Mia! As Amy says, it is the one to wear now, and anyway you will look fab in it. As for sayings and expressions, I've just taught Kay 'spitting feathers'!
Posted by: Belinda at April 25, 2007 04:52 PMYour stole is gorgeous and I too vote for Lilly.
Posted by: yvette at April 25, 2007 04:45 PMFlo - love the raglans too.
Posted by: carol at April 25, 2007 04:31 PMWhat an odd expression. I would love to hear some more!
I have to say I love Lilly, and the fact that someone else has not made it yet would give you the "one up" factor on the rest of us. BTW, the stole is simply lovely, it's looking so elegant. Keep going!
Posted by: Tracey at April 25, 2007 03:35 PMThank you so much for the link to the World Wide Words page! Since English is not my first language I often struggle with phrases like that.
Lilly looks like a great pattern, would love to try that someday.
Posted by: rippedoffknitter at April 25, 2007 01:35 PMI may have been the only one so far who voted for Mia. Cropped jackets are what it is right now. Maybe save this project for fall, knit in an autumn color, to be worn with a slim cotton long-sleeve tee under?
Posted by: amy at April 25, 2007 01:24 PMI voted for Lilly too. Looks like she is the front runner!
Posted by: Wendy at April 25, 2007 12:13 PMI voted for Lilly too. Looks like she is the front runner!
Posted by: Wendy at April 25, 2007 12:13 PMWonderful stole/shawl, and I really like the way the light shows of the pattern... really beautiful..
By the way, I woted for Lilly.
Posted by: Karen S at April 25, 2007 09:23 AMHi Polly
The stole is gorgeous! Lilly looks lovely - how do I obtain a copy of the pattern?
Deborah
Oh I meant vote for Flo and instead I voted for Sadie! Shame! You were on my mind this week as I was recalling Sheep & Wool last year. So clearly, I remember seeing you and thinking "Oh that could NOT be Polly"! And of course it was you! No Sheep and Wool for me this year as I am now living across the country. As always, your work is beautiful.
Posted by: KT at April 25, 2007 04:35 AMI'm Lilly all the way! Beautiful scarf - I'm in awe.
Posted by: Asaknitter at April 25, 2007 04:08 AMI like Lilly a lot too....maybe no one's made it because it, in the usual Rowan fashion, it only comes in *stick insect* sizing :(
I love Rowan (and Jaeger) but they need to start sizing for the MAJORITY, you know? Sorry, don't mean to hijack your post....Love the FPS!!! :)
Definitely Lilly. Looks like I'm not the lone voice either. :)
Posted by: Anne at April 25, 2007 12:00 AMDefinitely Lilly! Great minds think alike, I was looking through the Jaeger book last night and picked this one to sort out the yarn for. I love it, it is so beautiful.
You are doing so well with the stole too, fantastic work. You have such patience, and of course such incredible talent.
Posted by: Louise at April 24, 2007 11:58 PMI vote for Lilly, too.
I also have to wear gloves in the garden. And long sleeves and pants. And socks. (Plants and I don't get along so well without a buffer zone.) I don't have anyone to help with the bugs, but I do always keep a shovel nearby so that I can pick up the creepy-crawlies and dump them over the side of the fence without getting too close.
Posted by: Shanti at April 24, 2007 11:13 PMI vote for Lilly!
Posted by: Lynn at April 24, 2007 10:56 PMI actually knitted Lilly in the correct Jaeger yarn in a lovely shade of green but only wore it once. I think it was a bit too big and never looked right on me, the yarn was also a bit disappointing. It might have been alright if I'd done it one size smaller. I bought the yarn in Liberty and the girl who sold it to me was knitting it at the time if I remember correctly so if you didn't see her wearing it, maybe hers didn't turn out alright either.
Posted by: Marie-france at April 24, 2007 10:46 PMAlso can't seem to vote, but I love the Lilly design. It is beautiful.
Posted by: Jenna at April 24, 2007 10:24 PMI'd vote for Lilly too if I could.
Posted by: Carol at April 24, 2007 10:21 PMFor some reason I can't vote...... but if I could, it would be for Lilly!
Posted by: Jenn at April 24, 2007 10:14 PMFor some reason I can't vote...... but if I could, it would be for Lilly!
Posted by: Jenn at April 24, 2007 10:14 PMPolly - the stole is just beautiful - you are so talented I know that I could never achieve anything like that. You should be very proud of it. I vote for Flo - I love that design and have never made, I'm not sure why not...
Hope you don't mind a new 'commenter' :))
Posted by: Sheelagh at April 24, 2007 09:25 PMI cast my vote for Lilly--gorgeous details, but a simple shape that's loose enough to be confortable without being at all frumpy.
