Weird

I'm really not big on memes, especially ones that can be a bit too revealing. It's not that I'm a super-private person, but I much rather people meet me (in person) before passing judgement on me. It's just too easy to write something flippant and then have people reading your words, make incorrect assumptions.

Anyway (after all that), I've decided to answer this meme. Angelarae tagged me and since it's Christmas, the season of 'good will towards man(kind)', so don't judge me too harshly ;-)

“THE RULES:Each player of this game starts with the ‘6 weird things about you.’ People who get tagged need to write a blog post of their own 6 weird things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don’t forget to leave a comment that says ‘you are tagged’ in their comments and tell them to read your blog.”

1. I am no good at any watersports. I can't swim, can't ice skate, can't ski, can't sail, can't windsurf ...

2. I am really, really slow at doing the foodshopping because I try to mentally add up the cost of contents of my basket and compare it to the final that gets rung up. (Doesn't everyone that had a childhood in the pre-credit cards days do this?)

3. Whenever I buy things with an 'eat by date', I always check the date and all the packages on the shelf to make sure that I have the longest use by date on the item that I buy, even if I'm planning to eat it that evening.

4. I like to keep the teabag in my cup of tea, until I finish my tea, so that it gets really, really strong at the end.

5. I can't go anywhere without my capacious handbag. Not even to the shop in the village to buy a newspaper. Who knows when I might need my blackberry, knitting, sewing kit, kleenex, notepad or 200g containter of Advil?

6. I'm a bit obsessed with knitting and knitting goals. Which reminds me, here's sock #23.

Your eyes are not deceiving you. The weird weather that we have been having has caused my wallflowers to start flowering in December. The socks are a very simple 4 by 2 rib, using some Sport & Strumpfwolle Extrastark by Wolle Rölle that I bought on my trip to Munich. I finished a sock in the departure lounge, while waiting for a flight to London. The thick fog in London wreaked havoc on the short haul flights and it was good to have my knitting to stop me worrying about whether I was going to get home after all.

I took a second photo of the sock, just to see how the camera would react with a different colour background. Don't you think that the the blue in the first photo look a lot more lively than the second? The second photo is more 'true' to the colours of the yarn.

Oh the tricks that I can play on this camera on grey London winters.

P.S. Since this is a fairly old meme, I'm going to dispense with tagging anyone. If you'll like to answer it, please consider yourself tagged.

Thanks for responding to the meme. Never been tagged before and didn't want to disappoint. Love the socks:) Need to make a pair like that for DH. He wants another pair. Is the bottom photo background sage? Looks like rosemary or sage...

Happy Christmas! About the shopping basket adding up. Many years ago as a poor student I worked out that you could add up a rough total by multiplying the number of items in your basket by 50p per item which would give you a reasonably accurate- usually on the generous I will have enough money for all this- side. Then I graduated to £1 per item and find that this sort of still applies unless you have a few very expensive things in the basket ( to which I cheat and count them as 2 or 3 or even 4 items). Try it and see if it still works.

My daylilies are coming up and I have nasturtium's blooming in my yard. Talk about weird. Hello, it's December in New York!

I like that you buy yarn on your travels. I find that when I'm travelling none of the stores are open. What a great way to remember a place!

Up to sock #23, somehow I'm sure you'll get #24 finished before the year's end! Happy New Year to you.
