Progress

More progress on Cambridge.... amazing what a few episodes of Dr Who can do for progress.

I'm on the front now, just a bit more before the neckline decision. It's looking very likely to be a vee for victory.

I love the cable ribbing, even though it's got a voracious yarn appetite. Looking at the first picture though, I find myself wondering, is it going to be wide enough? The ribbing is really pulling it all in. (which is great if it's a girdle, not so great if it'll show the rolls of fat!)

I worked the increases along the edge as specificed by the pattern, and I did work cables into the increases. You know sometimes the pattern tells you too, but in this case it didn't.

Answering the age of question of whether to work the increases in pattern or stocking stitch

It's taking me an incredible time to get back into this piece of knitting, since I set it aside for my trip to Spain. Now, I'm really keen to finish it, even if it might not fit and I might have to go get more yarn.

Speaking of Spain, I've up loaded some of my Seville photos in the extended entry. It's just a few photos but it's themed. I hadn't noticed that red and orange were such a popular colour combination, but looking at my photos, the proof is there.

No doubt, every lace knitter knows why I had to visit the Real Alcazar. I wanted to see the source of the inspiration behind Hazel Carter's beautiful Alcazar, Moorish Palace shawl.

Paella, sangria and olives... yum!

I couldn't get myself up to trying this. The name was use too off-putting: Spiced Pork Fat (Manteca Colorado). My cholesterol went up 5 points just from standing so close to it.

The colours in your photos are amazing - spicy red and ochre (yeah, red and orange will do) are a beautiful combination. Who would've thought?

The pattern of Cambridge is so beautiful...
As I like your blog very much, I included you in my linklist on http://maggiescrafting.blogspot.com. If you don't like that, drop me a line and I'll remove the link! I am always delighted about visitors, so feel free to come and see, and perhaps you would even like to link me, too? Happy crafting! :-)

C'mon, Spiced Pork Fat sounds like a Chinatown delicacy! It's GOT to be tastier than the name sounds. And how different could it be than shmaltz (chicken fat) as a spread on bread? Another fab travelogue! xox Kay

Cambridge looks great - hope the yarn quantities work out. I find the knitting whizzes along when watching Dr Who which is just as well because it's probably the most watched TV show in this house!

Googling for Hazel Carter has provided many delicious lace links to explore - one day....

Lovely pics. The picture from the gardens of the Real Alcazar is so traditionally Spanish. It's like watching a documentary (only WAY more interesting).

What is it about knitters and their SciFi?? Is it our dirty little secret? I LOVE the new Doctor Who series! I watch it on the SciFi Channel in the states. Christopher Eccleston last year and David Tennant this year. Tennant is such a cutie. He may be a favorite so far! Every Friday night, I sit at home, watch Doctor Who and then Battlestar Galactica and knit my little fingers off. It is some of the best knitting time I get all week. One of the local craft shops runs a "Yarn Yoga" group on Friday nights, but unless they install TVs in there (or move it to another night), I'm not going!
