Feeling Good

cause Madli is done!

And so the blocking begins... first thoroughly wet it. Then lay it out and pin to shape with approx 500 or so quilting pins (It may be less than 500 but it felt like at least 500 when I was pinning in on my hands and knees).

I soaked it for about 20 minutes to make sure that it was *soaked*.

Then I realised that it ws wiggly. So I *sigh*, unpinned it and straightened it again. There, looks straight, right?

She worked out a wee bit longer than I had intended...about 84 inches instead of 72 inches So long that on the chair, she dragged.

So I had to repose her.

See how nicely the tips get scalloped with the blocking?

and the body of the shawl comes alive.

Here's the final arty shop. 2 strands of laceweight together gives a far more substantial shawl, She's not fluttering in the breeze.

Voila Madli's Shawl from Interweave Summer 2004.
Mine done using 2 strands of Knitpicks Shadow in Lost Lake.
I used 4.5 balls altogther for a shawl of approximately 22 inches wide by 84 inches long.

So in response to , Farrah's question: Yes I think it would work as a laceweight, but I would recommend that you add more repeats to make sure that it is wider. If it's too narrow, you'll end up with a pretty scarf. If you do it nupp-less, you'll use less yarn too.

Thanks to Laura for point out that the shawl is actually called Madli not Madil...and sorry for having you all google and not find the right pattern!

That is absolutely amazing! And I think that the nupp-less-ness is a great variation. I just did my first bobbled project and I can't see them looking as good on that shawl.
On another subject, I met one of your Vancouver internet fans today. I always knew you were a star!

Madli is beautiful! All the grafting scares me to death. Enjoy her...she is fabulous.

Ah! Your Madli shawl is beautiful! I second the recommendation of adding more repeats to make it wider. I'm thinking of re-blocking mine to see if I can stretch out a few more inches on it.

Mine is nupp-less too. :)

It turns out really nice! When I knit this, I'll go nupp-less too.

After looking at the IK site - is it Madli or Madil?

Posted by: Laura at August 9, 2006 02:20 AM

Just beautiful. I love learning ideas from other knitters - the two strands of laceweight together. You can get the great fibers, interesting colors, but a more substantial fabric - I'm sure it's still very light - just not lighter than air! Very pretty - now you're making me want to hunt for back issues of IK.

Wow! It's a real beauty!

Looks great! I love the colorway.

Very beautiful! and the longness is great, you will find that you can throw one side over your shoulder and it will actually stay put, not so with shorter wraps!

Was the pattern very attention consuming? I have done a ripple lace which was pretty repetative, so it became sort of mindless, this looks the the brain might be invested 100%.

I am sure you will wear this a lot and reap the praise!

Your version of the stole looks absolutely beautiful. The pattern comes alive with the blocking, as you say.

A really gorgeous stole. I prefer your,nupless,version.

Lovely! It would work well to be a lacy scarf too, I think.
About the Russian yarn online shop, the owner told me they were working on a large expansion for Fall. He said the yarn lines would be much larger and there would more choices of colours too. Besides, they would offer colour cards like the way KnitPicks are doing and are working on translating the yarn info into English on the ball bands. Right now, I bought one ball of each yarns that I was interested in and tried them out. I am actually anticipating the arrival of Fall! :)

Very beautiful stole - the nupps add something in the way of 3 dimensions, but I don't think you're version looses anything without them.
