It's hard to thrive in this heat. That is unless you're a plant that likes heat.
My green gage plum is looking pretty good. I went around and pollinated the darn thing with a cotton bud in the spring. If the squirrels don't take the lot, I might even get to enjoy a few this year.

There's fruit on the Victoria plum too... but not nearly as much.

Even the apple tree is cooperating. Amazing.. I thought that the late winter this year would had ruined all the fruits.

Unlike plants, humans seek coolness in the sweltering heat. We strolled lazily along the river. Even the New Southern Belle seemed to be going slower than usual.

Then suddenly, ... I spy with my little eye something begining with an 'A' ...but it's on the other side of the river. There must be a crossing somewhere....

... with renewed energy, we found it, but

wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
knitting? who has the energy to knit in the weather!
Great pictures of the fruit.. Whats there closed?? what a bummer... sorry!

Today its cloudy again but then again that is the nature of British weather and the secret to that lush green we get.
As to knitting in the summer, afghans are out, socks are in, cotton items a must and sitting with my hands in the shade while the legs warm in the sun, with a nice long drink next to me. Perfect.
Wah wah wah. You are sounding like Lucy from i love lucy show. The way to knit in the heat is to sit near a fan! Dont' come to chicago in summer if you fade my dear. We are humid and hot. But we have Lovely lake michigan to swim in and get breezes from.
Water water water
I'm really trying hard to just knit small things over the summer, though there are tempting knitting patterns out there! It's lovely walking by the river, isn't it? Chris likes the hike from Putney to Barnes, which is miles longer than the inland trek.
I'm with you about the hot weather, Polly - can't stand it. The forecast is for cooler weather (low 20's) for the next 10 days or so though - hurrah!
Posted by: Wendy P at June 18, 2006 10:41 PMWhat a lovely river cruise, it was certainly a nice day for it. Sorry that the pub was closed.
I know about the knitting, I have suddenly made zero progress ! Too hot - but I'm not complaining!
