Yummy, Yummy, Yummy

Thanks to everyone for telling me how you feel about your stashes. You know that there's going to be a follow-up poll soon ;-), but it's good to know that I am in good company and most of up may think that we have too much yarn, but we're comfortable about it too, even if we would suffocate if it collapsed on us.

Now, I know I did say that there weren't going to be many more mitred stuff in my future, but I did try this just to see if it was as fiddly.

Mitred Square cushion

In fact, it wasn't nearly as bad as the heart, but then again, it's not as pretty either. So I guess, no pain no gain is true here.

I stuffed the mitred cushion with some rose and lavender potpourri and sewed it shut. The vareigated yarn doesn't work that well as I made several goes to try and make it look consistent. I started with nearly a full ball of yarn but no luck... this was the best that I could do. Not very pretty but it smells nice.

and ...

something for the warmer weather... something yummy to make without even switching on the stove... don't you just love warm weather foods?

Feta Cheese Spears

This is a simple recipe. You buy all the ingredients and combine it.

small block of feta cheese (get the organic one from the cheese shop or Greek Deli)
Fresh roasted peppers (you can also use the ones in a jar)
cherry tomatoes, halved.
cocktail skewers
basil (optional)

Cut cheese to small bitsize, about 1.5cm x 2cm x 3cm.
Cut peppers to about 1.5cm x 3cm.

Place on skewer, 1 basil leaf, 1 piece of pepper, half cherry tomato, 1 piece of pepper and finally the feta. The cocktail stick should stand with the feta cheese anchoring it down. This can be prepared about 1-2 hours in advance, just be careful with the feta since it's a pretty crumbly cheese and the olive oil from from peppers will soften it. (you don't want the spears to fall apart when people pick them up)

You can easily substitute with cheddar and roast ham or mozzarella and parma ham. Serve on a plate lined with basil leaves or sprigs as oregano... whatever herbs that you have growing well in the garden at the time. (I should had taken a better photo but I was in a hurry and left the feta too long so the spears were starting to collapse)

..Recipes..

You should plan on 2-3 spears per person, if you are serving other stuff as well.

Bon appetite!

YUM! Would you like some Pimm's with that?

Very delicious!
I didn't realise your yarn was sock yarn, yet another way of using it up (though I'd just knit a long strip and sew up the sides, much less hassle!)

I think your cushion is very pretty especially with this yarn. I love it!
