On The Road Again

Guess where I went last weekend....

..Maryland..
The second wife, more reliable, no cold feet and is a fine navigator

The picture that cause marital disharmony... honest, I didn't see the sign that said no photos on the Verazano Narrows Bridge.

..Maryland..

Soon, we were on the other side, heading south.

..Maryland..

We got hungry, though and hunted for a place to eat... exiting in Jamesburg, we drove around until we ended up in Englishtown.

Greeted by a sign like this, how could we not stop.

..Maryland..

The place was packed. The food was good, the portions generous and the waitress, ever so friendly. I wished the portions were a little smaller so that ther would had been space left to try the ice cream which looked fantastic.

..Maryland..

We managed to squeeze ourselves back into the car, and pointing the are sourthward, we were soon on another bridge (and I checked about the photo polices before snapping these).

..Maryland..

Isn't it just gorgeous? I think that we were in Delaware at the the time.

..Maryland..

I knew that we were staying in the right hotel when we pull up and saw this.

..Maryland..
Ohio plates, honda accord... to match our Ohio registed Ford.

The next morning, I could hardly contain myself ...

..Maryland..
Yes, it is hard to take photos from a moving vehicle.

Since it was a sheep show, there was sheep.

..Maryland..
Prep for the judging

..Maryland..
Here's one of the winning rams. Isn't he gorgeous?

There was also judging for knitting and garments. I took lots of photos because the stuff was beautiful. Even the stuff that didn't win, place or show boggled my mind.

Hope that you enjoy these pictures. More to come as I download and resize, but so many bloggers were there, that you've probably seen all those photos.. so I'll have a prowl before my next posting. I love, love, LOVE this show ... and the hubby for taking me this year.

Wow, I was standing next to you while you took some of those photos. If I had known that was you, I would have introduced myself as one of your frequent lurkers. Y'all come back when you can stay longer, y'hear?

Krunchy Carmel Fudge Breakfast? Yum! I probably would have just spent the night there. Great photos!

You are so sly, I had no idea you were planning to go to MSW. Wish I'da been there, but then again I had just received a large shipment of excellent yarn. xox Kay

Wow. It looked like a brilliant tour. Thanks for the great photos - wish I could have gone. Did you buy anything?

Posted by: Ling at May 10, 2006 11:33 AM

So, I am standing in the Main Barn and I see a lady and think;"Wow! That really looks like ATU Polly. Nah- couldn't be. She is in England!" I should have trusted myself and just said something! Glad you had such a great time.

We meet wice in one month! I`m so glad I bumped into you at the festival. Sounds like you had a great time! Now show us your new stash...

Posted by: Louise at May 10, 2006 12:53 AM

Sounds heavenly, you have a very nice man in your life. What show are you going to next polly?

Posted by: Anne at May 9, 2006 07:17 PM

WOW, you went all the way there??
I'm beyond envious. Can I follow next year? ;D

Posted by: Yuvee at May 9, 2006 05:44 PM

thanks for all the photos!

Posted by: janet d at May 9, 2006 05:26 PM

Oh man!!!! I am beyond envious. Even you got to come all the way across the pond for this event. I will have to content myself with the Wisconsin sheep and shearing show in September.

BTW--any experience with Iceland, the Faroes or Shetland? We are thinking of making our vacation this year a journey that begins in Iceland and ends in Glasgow with stops in all the above listed places. Of course, mama wants wool!!!!!!

Polly

What a fun photo post. Thanks, I felt like I was there with you. Great idea for a friend who is making a baby blanket, to use the alphabet over simple wraps. Im very hungry now after reading your breakfast experience....off to make some pancakes!

Polly - I haven't seen any photos like yours! Thanks for sharing. Too bad I couldn't go this year!! It would have been marvelous to meet you. Best -

Posted by: jess at May 8, 2006 06:18 PM

What an amazing trip! How sweet of your hubby to embark on such an adventure. It looks like it was an amazing experience, but you know what we want to see... where's the yarn?

Posted by: Charity at May 8, 2006 05:27 PM

Oh my goodness. All the way from London! I wonder if you win some sort of "farthest distance traveled" award? :-)

Posted by: Beth S. at May 8, 2006 04:47 PM

Polly! What a fantastic tour. I so wish we had been there. Your travelogues are hands down the BEST. I just love seeing all the incredible handknits. And sheep. And bridges.

Posted by: Ann at May 8, 2006 03:49 PM

Wow, hope that you enjoyed the whirlwind trip.

Posted by: colleen at May 8, 2006 03:44 PM

Almost as good as going there myself....and a lot cheaper! You certainly have James very well trained - what did he do while you were looking at all the fibres/sheep/stuff? Waiting to see more pictures.......

I saw you wandering around the fairgrounds Saturday am, thought about shouting hello, and thought better of it. It was a beautiful day for the event -- you did a much better job of looking around than I did. Me, sadly, I just shopped.

Posted by: Anmiryam at May 8, 2006 03:31 PM

I didn't know that you couldn't take pictures of some bridges. How strange! Nevertheless, it's a beautiful picture. The others are great too, thanks so much for sharing!

Posted by: Maryann at May 8, 2006 11:50 AM

Thank you for the virtual tour of America and the showground, I'm in awe of your wonderful photography. The bridges look great, so glad you didn't get the camera confiscated. ;)

I'm turning green over my coffee here! Does you husband give lessons to other husbands on how to treat your knitting wife?

Posted by: Mary at May 8, 2006 08:22 AM

Crikey and I womble on about driving to Bristol! Do you loan your husband out????

Posted by: Tracy at May 8, 2006 07:57 AM

How cool Polly!!! And I thought coming from Florida was far!!

Posted by: Debi at May 8, 2006 07:49 AM

Green with envy. Sigh.

Posted by: Amelia at May 8, 2006 07:31 AM

Wish we'd known you were there! It would have been a treat to meet you. You definitely did better in the picture taking department than I did! I think I've got 5-6 pictures from the whole event since I was too busy looking for fiber.

Posted by: Theresa at May 8, 2006 06:13 AM

Yup, that second bridge picture most definitely looks like the one on the Delaware Turnpike. I love paying $5 for the privilege of spending 15 minutes in Delaware. Hurray.

*sigh* I wish I could have been to all the sheepy goodness in MD... But no, my friend is in the state NEXT week.

And there's something just so delightfully ironic about a knit sheep. Oh, look, I have a felted knit sheep. :)
