Eye of the Tiger

What day is it?

Been so busy here, that I'm getting my darn days mixed up. I was convinced that today was Thursday and managed to give a tongue lashing to a few colleagues at work who didn't turn up to a conference call that I was running. Boy, did I feel stooopid, when they pointed out to me that it is Wednesday and the call is for Thursday, which is ..um, T-O-M-O-R-R-O-W... !

oops.. I knew I should had emphasized patience in the new year's resolutions!

Meanwhile back at the ranch...

Seeing Wendy's tiger sock reminded me that I had a skein of Opal in orange, cream, black and white... was it a tiger? Well actually, no.

It's not easy chosing sock yarns, especially the varigated or the patterned variety. How is one to know that a skein the looks like this

..Opal Magic..

will knit up looking like this?

..Opal Magic..

Much prettier worked up than on the skein. You have the much more subtle peach-y colour showing up which you can't really see on the skein. It's like that with these variegated and patterned yarns. Ones that are gorgeous on the skein can be so-so knitted up and ones that aren't that exciting on the skein can just look fabulous.

What is it with orange...? I still am not overly enamoured by this colour, but it is popping up every... where and every ...where ... suddenly, I feel very 'in-vogue'!

I credit Clauda (of claudiasblog) for the whole orange sensation. I know she's the one who got me thinking about it.

That Opal is quite the fun colorway. I like it better than the Tiger.

Nothing wrong with orange! Especially cool orange kitties! :)

Your knit sock is MUCH prettier than I would have imagined!

I too think the orange phenomenon is due to Project Spectrum in part. The project involves assigned colors for certain months of the year. You create in that color range. Some swaps have started and I joined a very fun swap organized by Lynne at I was Knit Together in My Mother's Womb. I was in for the April swap: Oranges and yellows. They are not generally my colors, so I was delighted to find them for her, and the yarns she sent me with yellows and oranges are already being knitted up. The Koigu yellow is gorgeous.
I am taking May off, but I am in for the June colorswap, I think its blue or purple. Feel free to join us.

Love the socks - guess the surprise element is what makes knitting socks so exciting! That and turning the heel, I suppose....

You ? Give a tongue lashing? Nah! Is this a late April fool's joke?

Orange is fun! I love it! ^^
The sock looks wonderful, very clever mixture of colours on that yarn ball.

Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated by the orange-lovers. ;-)

Your Opal sock is really pretty! It's so true about the disconnect between skein and sock. Sometimes I'm completely astonished by what I end up with. I just finished a pair like that, in fact (in Opal Mosaic; I got a static pattern instead of a mosaic. But I do like it.)

That's the fun with Opal -- you just never know!

Mmmmm. Looked for first post and it wasn't to be seen - so did it again. Now there are 2. Who is mixed up now I wonder??

Polly, don't worry. Somewhere in the world it's Thursday - in fact, Thursday has almost come to an end here in Australia. See?? You weren't mixed up at all!

I had a very similar ball of yarn which turned out very different! Yours has lots of the pale background, which is nice.
Orange must be everywhere partly because of Project Spectrum.

Great socks, I love the way the stripes worked out. Is that knitted toe up or cuff down??

VERY NICE SOCKS!!!

Don't worry about confusing your days - the easter holidays do that to me every year. Except usually I'm running one day BEHIND everyone else. Which is much more problematic in the world of work than being AHEAD of everyone else...
Your socks are another example of how ahead of your time you really are.

Amelia and I were just talking about the same issue with sock yarns this evening. Very gratifying that yours turned out the positive way. I'm not a huge fan of orange but it works really well with the peach and cream in your yarn.
