Orange

There's been a llittle progress on knitting up that pumpkin yarn for BISS. I'm using my simple Aran-weight Watch Cap pattern and making a little variation as I go along, because knitting so many identical orange hats might make me want to top myself out of boredom.

I managed to locate some odd balls of left over yarn (mostly long discontinued Annabel Fox yarns from other projects) like this, which I can use to do some colourwork.

I keep telling myself that orange is a very good colour for hats at sea. It's the colour of life preservers and safety equipment. The words, the future's bright, the future's orange keeps running through my head... but orange hats can be overwhlemingly orange.

I wanted to at least have one photo of the hat being modelled on a real head... but when doing self-portraits, you never know what might creep into the frame.

Well, if orange is good enough for the Dali Lama....Thank you for sharing your knitting works. I really enjoy your blog. You have a great slant on the big picture.

I'm on my second hat, my mother gifted me with the odd ball wool stash this week (mostly early 80's from the colours) and I need to knit it up and get it out of the house. I can see a big BISS box later in the year.

I love the striped cap and I think Herr Nussknacker is plotting to steal it for himself. The orange would go so well with his blue uniform!

I love that picture of you and the toy soldier! And the hats look great too. Can you send me the pattern, I'll whip a hat up from Stash too. I could do with something that does not involve thinking! A.x

Hi from Austria! I think orange is perfect for everything, it's my fave color as it reminds me of summer, sun, warmth - so, orange for hats at sea? Perfect! I love them, they turned out so great!

Your two caps look good! Personally I think orange is a great color. I'm sure the two sailors that receive your caps will be thrilled.

Your hat looks lovely and cosy, I think the nutcracker is just jealous that he has to wear a hard hat.

Reminds me of those horror films with ventriloquist's dummies, I hope he's boxed at night.

Lovely hat, I must do more charity knitting!

I'm laughing out loud at the Nutcracker soldier!! The stern expression on his face says "Drat! I wanted to wear that cap!!". =)

Great hat -- but now I'm afraid that nutcracker is going to attack you when you least expect it . . .

Orange is not one of those colours that jump out to buy at a yarn store but I like what you have done with them, very spring like.
