Yarn from Trefriw Woollen Mills in Wales. Amelia wrote about her visit there some months ago. She didn't mention it, but I was one of those knitting buddies that benefitted from her visit. I'm doing a very simple sock, a 3 x3 moss rib style to show off how lovely the yarn is. There are just so many flecks of colours, all making the grey come alive.
The yarn is also very lanolin rich. I can just feel many hands being conditioned while I knit away.

Here's a better photos of all those flecks.

The fabric is pretty dense, since the yarn is 100% wool. I'm not convinced that it's going to be long wearing without the synthetic content, but it'll be nice and cushy, perfect for double-socking before a long hike in the country.
I recently mentioned to the husband that we really ought to get to Wales to visit some of his relatives. His response? 'Which yarn shops are you scheming to spend the trip visiting? ' Scheming, indeed... there's only Colinette and Trefriw (and Trefriw is a mill) that I know of and it would be rude not to call in when we are just in the neighbourhood ;-)

it is beautiful
Your site is inspiring. Your latest socks are wonderful. In my sock knitting and wearing experience all natural fibres wear very nicely and age more beautifully than any never alive synthetics. Your foot can actually breathe.
Posted by: danita at March 21, 2006 04:11 PMScheming! Never. I was just in Denver recently and I allowed hubby to spend 2 hours in a ski shop to buy a pair of boots and skis. My payback - visits to all the yarn stores in the Denver Metro area! Bliss. We girls need to do all we can to visit yarn stores!
Posted by: Ling at March 19, 2006 09:13 PMThe socks are divine. I love the moss rib pattern you came up with. Yesterday, for the first time ever, I knit on a sock. I now fully understand the word 'addiction'.
Posted by: Aimee at March 19, 2006 03:03 PMBeautiful yarn, and that pattern shows it off so well!
Posted by: Norah Willett at March 18, 2006 04:27 PMwhen are you going to stop knitting socks? How many paris of socks do you really need?
Posted by: Nancy at March 18, 2006 02:26 PMWhat a great marriage of yarn and pattern. Looks ideal.
Posted by: Kathleen at March 18, 2006 01:26 PMEverybody's knitting socks... maybe I should try, too? But I am just the beginner in knitting, I must find some easy pattern.

sock looks lovely and envy you the lanolin my fingers hate me and the alpaca/felted tweed yarns I am knitting with.
I love those complex tweedy multicoloured yarns. They make the knitting go faster, I'm sure.
Posted by: Linda at March 18, 2006 08:51 AMThat yarn is GORGEOUS!! I love tweedy yarns!
Posted by: Debi at March 18, 2006 06:38 AMWhat a beautiful yarn, just like a muted rainbow. You must definitely visit the source, it would be rude not to while in the area and you haven't a rude bone in your body.
Scheming? Honestly, husbands! ;)
Posted by: Louise at March 17, 2006 11:04 PMScrumptious lively yarn! You obviously must go visit the source.

Posted by: alice bell at March 17, 2006 09:21 PM"Scheming"? How dare he use that word! LOL! It's just social and family courtesy in maintaining relations.
Love the colour of the yarn ... which appears to be more blue than gray on my screen, BTW.
I'm with you, that's just plain rude! We are planning a vacation to California soon, and I've already scoped out the shops I want to visit while I'm there....hehe. Good Luck!
