While between projects, I thought to cast these on... before I knew it, the first socks came off the needles . I'm making these for a friend. Although, it seems like all I'm doing are socks, I'm not planning on only knitting socks this year.

It's odd, but for some reason, I seem to knit regia socks faster than other brands. In case you were wondering about trick photography, these socks are big... big enough to fit a woman US 10. The colour way is Oslo (see, told you I love Scandie things and one of these days, I'll tell you about the Jotul.)
Perhaps, it's the frequent stripes that drives me on. Makes the knitting very interesting even when I'm only doing 4 by 2 rib.
I'm using this Sock it to Me card that Kristine gave me for Christmas. (You can get one over at Knit Happens. )

It's a wonderful little do-dad, (technical term for one of those things that you never think that you'll need/want until you have it and now you can't live without it). The card gives US, EUR, MEX sizes and tells you how many inches/cms you'll need to work from top to heel. Good-bye to the days when I start emailing people to find out what size shoes their (and their nearest and dearest) wear long was their foot, so that I can surprise someone else with a pair of socks. This usually resulted in a request for a pair of socks for them!
There's also a ruler on the edge, so the card can double as a tape measure because what knitter doesn't have 10 but can't find one when they need it? But the best bit? It's laminated so you can also use it for a coaster ;0)
I just knit up that same colorway. Years ago, I saw someone at a yarn store knitting up those up, too. It was the first fair-isle/self-striping yarn I saw, and was instantly hooked. After trying many other yarns, I still like Regia best.

I think all surveyors are paid to err on the side of caution - otherwise they'd get blamed if you got a shed on your head.
Posted by: mrspao at March 8, 2006 06:43 AMI couldn't find that handy-dandy do-dad at the Knit Happens online store...
Posted by: Jennhx at March 7, 2006 04:49 PMOh The COASTER factor. What a great idea. you are so funny.
Posted by: kathy b at March 7, 2006 03:23 PMYes, I want to hear about your Jotul! We've have the smallest model (in cream color enamel) for several years and just love it.
Posted by: AnnP at March 6, 2006 10:51 PMBut does the do-da have UK Imperial sizes? ;-)
Posted by: Spinningfishwife at March 6, 2006 05:38 PMDo-dad, is that the same as a whatsit? Do Libertys still have regia, I think I need to try some as I love those stripes.
