It's been a long and cold winter, so when spring finally arrives... one has to jump with joy... or visit the gardens. Spring bulbs with be about for the next month.
Nope, I'm not in Tokyo, the pagoda is in Kew!

Come on, you know you want to walk around the crocus carpet...

Look how delicate, each bloom is.

They may look harmless, but we all know what can happen, especially if we've seen 'The Birds'

All that colour and no matter what I did, they refused to open their tails.

Initially, I chase them, but then when his mate (as in buddy because obviously peacocks are male) turned up, they tuirned the tables and chased me.

Eek.. get away!

Probably jealous of my Poms. 1 down 1 to go.

Ok it is official... I now need to find the right yarn to make this pattern!
Posted by: stinkerbell at April 1, 2006 11:02 AMIts a long time since i have seen those crocus beds at Kew - thanks for the reminder of how beautiful they are.
Posted by: carol at March 27, 2006 06:52 PMAh, you are the true peacock with those socks!! You need to take off your shoes and stick your feet in the air to give the peacocks something to compete with!!
Posted by: gail at March 26, 2006 09:50 PMThis past week I lost my sick virginity. Yup, I started my first pair. Though I may never reach your glorious heights of sock expertise, I may be well on my to way a new addiction. I think Lorna's Laces needs to do a peacock colorway....
Posted by: Aimee at March 26, 2006 01:38 PMAh yes, Spring... A rather mythical season here where it snowed *again* today... Very nice socks. As for the peacocks not presenting, in order for them to show off there must be a female peacock around they want to impress. We had some next to our elementary school, worst thing about them is their very loud, very shrill shrieks and calls.
Posted by: Thomas Holm at March 26, 2006 12:28 PMYour sock is beautiful-the pattern really pops with that yarn.
Posted by: brooke at March 25, 2006 11:51 PMI resisted the Jaywalkers, but I might have to knit these ones!
I'm not surprised the peacocks kept their tails down - you're not a peahen!
Kew Gardens looks beautiful. When I lived in London, I didn't visit nearly enough. The peacocks are gorgeous but I'd be a bit scared if I was chased by them.
Those socks are lovely - I really like the pattern!
Posted by: mrspao at March 25, 2006 07:32 PMahahhha! you right the peacok was jealous ahhah! your sock's is nice and the royal garden too
Posted by: monique/England at March 25, 2006 03:56 PMYou are so very, very lucky to live in London and have access to Kew Gardens. AND to be in a climate which (however dismal it may be at certain other times of year) is positively glorious in spring. We have nothing yet except for a few snowdrops and the tips of some daffodil greens, and you have an entire carpet of crocuses already. Sigh! Robert Browning was right. ;-)
Posted by: Beth S. at March 25, 2006 03:48 PMThe carpet of crocus is beautiful and the bird is fabulous, too. What a lovely homage to spring. I just printed out Pomatomus (how will I remember that name?) for my next sock. Yours look marvelous.
Posted by: margene at March 25, 2006 01:56 PMawesome Polly, really like the sock pattern. Spring, seems there and yet one foot still seems to be in winter. There is hope though
Posted by: Anne at March 25, 2006 01:37 PMpeacocks can move fairly fast - I have very vivid memories of being chased by one at Scone Palace when I was 9 - darn thing nearly got me, too!
India
That sock looks great and thanks for the crocus photos.
Posted by: Sarah HB at March 25, 2006 01:35 PMDynamite sock! The flowers are lovely and give us reason to hope, here in Wisconsin. We had two inches of snow yesterday.
Posted by: kathie at March 25, 2006 12:39 PMI remember spring. Sigh....
Posted by: colleen at March 25, 2006 12:30 PMI've just finished my first pomatomus too! I used Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock yarn for the first time - can't wait to get some more, its so soft! Did you enjoy the pattern? I think it works really well.
