For something quick and imminently satisfying, may I suggest a pair of Stahl Limbo dk Socks?

I finished these in 2 days and used just 2 x 50g balls. I worked 54 stitches on 3mm needles, with a 6 inch cuff. The socks are very squishy, perfect for dancing in the new year ;o). They're warm too and in this weather, perfect to protect me from frost-bitten toes.

I made no attempt to even make them identical. There would had been no hope anyway, as
1. There was about 2 meters of yarn left There was almost an emergency call to Dawn to see if she had any left over from her pair They might not be the same colourway, but sometimes, you've just got to go with the flow.
2. I can't see the pattern repeat in the pair.
3. I had doubts that they were the same dyelot and went back to check the labels.

I was so eager to photograph them, that I had to compromise. I had daylight but there was a very slight drizzle. The colours are difficult to photograph. With a flash the blues and greens just lost it's intensity and looked really washed out.
That little skein in between the socks is the remnants of 100g of this yarn.

and the artistic shot, here's a little greenery for your winter

I wonder what the neighbours would had thought if they looked in the windows... me with my feet in the air.

New Years Resolutions
I haven't decided which ones that I'll make but I know that one of them is going to have to do with reducing the size of my stash and another one is going to have something to do with procrastination.
Kiri with the scallopy edge
Instructions are written for the short row edge. I'll post the draft tomorrow...
In the meantime, for more photos on my socks (because who can get enough of these beauties ....)
These socks were so beautiful, that everyone had to have their photos taken with it.

Did you see all those lovely handknits on the Alpaca Woman, Yvonne and Karin? simply gorgeous. (Rowanette Jill's very pretty cardi is form Marks and Spencer's Per Una range (sadly all gone by the time of the sales).
Photos taken at Liberty, where else?
Nice socks :)
Posted by: Bente at January 5, 2006 11:53 PMI love those socks! I would've taken at least that many pictures, too.
Posted by: Chris at January 5, 2006 01:53 PMI bought 3 balls (Mr BigFoot's socks) and also had to double check the dyelots (all the same) as I could see a definite change in the yarn. Chris hasn's noticed at all and they didn's show up differently in the photos!
Funny how 99.99% of knitters seem to want to knit with stash this year!
Dawn:)
Posted by: dawn at January 3, 2006 10:38 PMI gave my husband that exact Limbo for Christmas! He's going to make himself a hat (yes, he knits, too). I really like the colors especially after seeing your great looking socks.
Posted by: Donna at January 2, 2006 10:41 PMHappy New Year!
I purchased Kidsilk Haze yesterday at my LYS's "Rose Bowl Widows Sale." They seem to have overlooked the fact that the Rose Bowl was moved from New Year's Day to January 2, but a sale is a sale! I'm ready to knit a Kiri in the New Year!
Happy New Year Polly. I had a similar dyelot issue with my last lot of Stahl socks (not Limbo) - the difference between each one was quite marked. Hope to see you early in 2006!
Posted by: Mary at January 1, 2006 09:23 PMI've just discovered knitting blogs, what a joy! And what gorgeous socks, Like Maureen above, I'm going to have to ask for the directions too. The heel looks so neat, mine don't turn out half as well. Thanks in advance for the pattern or online location or place to buy it!
Posted by: Ruth at January 1, 2006 12:16 AMThose socks look lovely.
You did well having just enough yarn.
I've got some of that in the rusty colours when I spotted it at Ally Pally. They look beautifully soft (I bought 3 balls as I wasn't sure and knowing that you've used only two, seems like I won't have to knit fast in case I run out now!)
Happy New Year!
I LOVE your blog - and really love these socks...so much so that I HAVE TO HAVE THEM! I've only knitted one pair of socks and want to knit more. Would you please be willing to share the source for your pattern? I'm also going to try to find this yarn - just beautiful! My email is maureenea@cox.net
Thank you so much! Happy knitting...and may the new year ahead be kind and gentle to you and those you love.
Maureen
Yikes ! I haven't even thought about resolutions yet !! Enjoy the dancing socks and have a great time when it comes :0)

Posted by: Heather at December 31, 2005 12:31 AMWhat, stashes are for reducing? Are you sure about that?
I love the socks, should keep your tootsies cosy and warm. They could have made a mistake with the labelling of your yarn, one of the socks seems to have a purpley brown band or two in it and the other doesn't. But what the heck, they're gorgeous anyway.
Posted by: Louise at December 31, 2005 12:00 AMi don't know who are more spoiled - the socks being photographed with all those beautiful girls, or the girls being photographed with those beautiful socks. great work, polly!
happy new year!
Posted by: kris at December 30, 2005 11:06 PMWell, I'd do a happy dance if I'd made those socks. I too wonder what the neighbors are thinking when I shoot for the blog.
Happy new year!
Posted by: kathy b at December 30, 2005 11:05 PMWow, the colourway of those socks is stunning! They look gorgeous and comfy. Best of luck with whatever best suits your New Years' resolution ;) and a Happy New Year.
Posted by: Michelle at December 30, 2005 09:57 PMI love the colourway of the socks ... especially the green! Are you going to cast on for a new project on new year's day? I am going to start a new pair of socks.
Wish you and your family a wonderful new year!
Practicing procrastination in reducing your stash sounds like a sound New Year's resolution. Have a great Hogmanay!
Love
Helen.
I'm working on the wording for my own resolution on stash reduction. It needs to limit the amount of yarn and fibre that I buy without it being a total stop (because I won't). I'm trying to work out what a "reasonable" monthly cash amount is to see me from here to June (my birthday). Being honest it could be zero as I could happily knit for six months without having to buy yarn but then I buy yarn and fibre because I want it, not because I need it. I'll be interested to see what your resolution is (if you're telling)
Posted by: Caroline M at December 30, 2005 07:44 PMGreat looking pair of socks. Are the DK weight thin enough to wear in shoes?
lol - "another one is going to have something to do with procrastination."
It'll be awfully funny if you don't make that one until 2 Jan.
