Baby, It's Cold Outside

Washed and pinned. The completed size is 66 inches wide and 28 inches long. The total weight is about 4 oz. It might be a bit less after I washed it. It turned the water a dirty pinky brown and left a ring in the basin. The water was only clear after the 6th rinse. I was a bit nervous about accidentally felting it, so I used cold water, ice cold water .... in this weather ... when we are below freezing. ( i think I might have frost bite on my fingers!) After 6 hours, it was still wet... and cold too)

Close-up of the edge. See, the points on fern leaf with a garter border, that was a major pain to put on. It was slightly easier when I did the knitting backwards instead of turning the work every 4th stitch.

Close-up of the end. I resolved the points issues here and there is a point.

Close-up of the center point. I have since repinned it, to get rid of the slight skew that you see.

So short-row edging vs. the original edging.... yes, I will write it up and include it in the instructions. I must note that it is more fiddly to do the turning for attaching the garter border might make you wish you hadn't done it. It takes longer to do this than the other border but you use slightly less yarn. I'll knit up a sample in a light colour yarn so that you can see the actual stitches more clearly.

Glad you made this scallop edged version. That's a good enough excuse for me to make another one!

Beautiful! I am just beginning my first lace-weight project.

I have always been told that felting is caused by agitation and shocking the fiber with either very hot or very cold water. Glad yours didn't felt.

I just came across your website and was delightfully surprised to see an Icelandic book!!! I am from Iceland and it is always a wonderful feeling to see something Icelandic anywere. So if you need translations and Björk is busy, I might be able to help haha. Love your Kiri. I will defenately make that soon, as it is getting colder in Iceland.

It's beautiful! I love the lacework, what is the pattern? Your edging WAS worth the trouble. It's icy cold here, too. I'm hanging laundry outside today. It may freeze dry a bit. lol

NO SHIT, the weather outside is COOOOOLD out there. Maybe it is the impetus I need to get my derriere finishing things :)

I don't know if lacework helps to keep one warm but if so, and it can look that beautiful- sign me up :)

Beautiful Polly, as always. I hope your poor hands have warmed up after all that cold water!

It's so pretty, for a minute there I thought you'd done a blue edging before I read about it still being wet!

It is gorgeous. I love how the pattern determines the shape of the edging.
