I got this lovely little present for my birthday from the wonderful Jacinta. Isn't the bluey green just fabulous? This the the semi-circular fan shawl from the Martha Waterman Traditional Knitted Shawls book. I just love this colour. It changes ever so slightly in different lighting.

Here's a close-up of the edging. Jacinta did a crocheted off edging and it looks really sweet. My crocheted off edging looked really amateurish beside this work of art.

I'm keeping this as my computer shawl. It's place is right beside my computer and when it gets a tiny bit chilly, I just drape it over my shoulder and be toasty warm, just like getting a hug from Jacinta. Thanks Jacinta.... you're the best.
Debbie Bliss Smock Jacket Update
Here's the latest smock jacket update. Not one sleeve but 2 are done. I've kept the front of the jacket for last. It's the most interesting part of the project to knit, and only about half a mile of stocking stitch.

I am loving this Jaeger baby matchmaker merino. It's very soft and lovely to work with... and the stitches just fly off the needles. I hope that rolling hem sorts itself out after a good blocking.

Posted by: Michelle at September 24, 2005 03:54 PMYou are a very lucky grrl. That is one gorgeous shawl. Wear it well;-)
Posted by: margene at September 24, 2005 02:23 PMYet another lace book to covet! It is a beautiful shawl.
Posted by: MJ at September 23, 2005 09:01 PMOh that shawl is beautiful! Hmm, I have a copy of that Martha Waterman book out on loan from the library. I should get around to reading it, eh? =)
Posted by: Felicia at September 23, 2005 06:18 PMJacinta is very talented! The shawl is a fabulous birthday gift. The smock jacket is a lovely color. I like that pattern, I knit it a couple of years ago in Rowan cotton glace. The merino is much nicer, and kinder to your hands than cotton glace is.
Posted by: Barbara at September 23, 2005 05:12 PMThat shawl is so much prettier in "real life" than in the awful photo in the Waterman book. I never would have guessed.
Posted by: Beth S. at September 23, 2005 04:16 PMWhat a beautiful gift - Jacinta is a very talented knitter! I love the smock jacket. I did one of those a couple of years ago and it still gets a lot of wear. So cute on little ones.
Posted by: Anita at September 22, 2005 06:43 PMLucky you to have such a giving and talented friend. That matchmaker blocks very well - you won't be disappointed.
Posted by: Mary Beth at September 22, 2005 06:24 PMAnother amazing lace shawl? WOW!
Love the smocking too ;)
You've been busy on that smock!
Jacinta chose the perfect color for you. Lovely lovely. It ought to get an outing away from the computer SOMETIMES. xox Kay

Posted by: carol at September 22, 2005 02:38 PMJacinta knits beautifully. She's obviously got crochet off to a fine art too. Get that woman a blog!
Posted by: Tracy at September 22, 2005 01:50 PMJacinta's shawl is really pretty! I really like the choice of colour.
The smock jacket also looks pretty nifty!

Posted by: Sarah at September 22, 2005 12:25 PMI see gifts from Jacinta all over the blog world (and sometimes in person!) -- what a lovely friend she is!
and I love your smock coat!
Posted by: Wendy at September 22, 2005 12:15 PMwhat a beautiful shawl! that pattern is great, isn't it? I wonder when Jacinta finds the time to do all of the furtive knitting!
I think Jaegar yarns are underrated. The shetland aran (actually wool/alpaca) was a great discovery for scarves that might get close to neck skin.
The smock is lovely too.
