A Kiss To Build A Dream On

I wanted to make this shawl because the book writes about it be well-worn and lovingly travelled across many plane trips. I thought what a lovely idea. I, too can have a Kerry Blue and tote her from continent to continent when I travel. I wanted it for me, me, me.. but .. when Katrina hit, I was stunned by the TV footage of the devastation. So, much misery and so much suffering... and by the ones least financially equipped to deal with it.

Seeing the total on the Give A Little Fund started by Margene and Susan grow daily, and seeing Wendy's generosity in setting her Peacock free, made me realise that I, too, can personally do more and so I did.

... I pledged Kerry as a gift to the Katrina Fund. I hope whoever gets her, will tote her around the world because this is a shawl aspires to be a globetrotting jetsetter... (but, not all aspirations come to fruitition... so even if she doesn't see the world, I'm sure that she would be happy to just be there to keep someone warm).

All these photos were taken around 7:30 pm.. you can see the last traces of light leaving the sky.

It curls ever so slightly. I'm still not sure about this eding, but it might be because I botched it, seeing that I am the world's worst crocheter.

To give you a sense of the scale... I should had worn a light colour top for this photo. As usual, I continue to hide behind my work.

Here's your artistic shot..

Just so that you know, I'm far from being anywhere as quick as Wendy, I started this on the 28th of August and completed this 4th September.

Margene and I are still in awe of the fact that you are parting with your amazing shawl. Trust me, the person who wins it will treasure your gift.

What a beautiful thing to do!! Stiches of love for people you don't even know....as bad as it is all this GOOD must prevail!!!! I heard today they need help loading airplanes because of all the goods San Diego, CA people have donated and the same planes bring people here! I believe our city said they are ready to put 600 children into the school system .....I think about 200 evacuees have come....
All our little ways that we can help it ALL adds up!!! My daughters friend is starting a bin at our middle school, so we will all donate to that...perhaps I should get stitching myself!!! ...your such an inspriration..and from afar that means sooooo much!!!! We are really from one world.....of course many of us know that and live that, but only wish others would/could feel that....

That's extremely generous of you!

And I like to think that our shawls will have many happy times with their new owners and travel far and wide. Who knows? Maybe Kerry and Peacock will meet one day!

Oh Polly, not as quick...started and finished within 8 days, oh in my dreams! It's going to make lots of money have no fears.

THANK YOU for donating your shawl - that was a tremendous thing to do, as it is sooooo beautiful. You did a fantastic job! Yay, Polly!

Two of our friends lost everything - except their precious pets, a couple of photos, and some important papers - in the hurricane. They had just relocated to New Orleans from Washington. Luckily they evacuated to Texas early on. They are safe and going to another state to stay with family, and I'm so grateful they're alive... and for people like you who are making a difference!

What a beautiful shawl! I am not too big a fan of shawls, but that one is truly gorgeous. It is also wonderful of you to give it away.

She's a beautiful shawl, and you're a generous person. I know how hard it would be for me to part with a dream (and that's what knitting is, really, a dream come to fruition).

you did a great job. no one will see the edging the rest of it is so beautiful and the edging is not that bad.

thanks for giving this away. i live in North Carolina. far enought away not to be hit by the storm but close enought to get some of the displaced people here.

one lady here had 21 family members come up for the storm and not they are here for who knows how long. our church is helping her needless to say. from a house hold of 1 to 22.

thanks again for caring for us across the sea.

A big shawl like that in one week? Sounds like a land speed record to me! And it's so pretty. I love the color. :-)

Your Kerry Blue is just beautiful, Polly. I hope that it helps to raise lots of money for those poor people suffering due to Katrina. By your actions you will not only warm a body but also warm lots of hearts. Bless you.
