Chic Cheer

What is it about British springs? It's certainly been chilly...even when the sun's shining. It's perfect weather for a little Sitcom Chic.

..Sitcom Chic..

My Sitcom Chic is powering along, in Rowan All Seasons Cotton. Although it's a bit hard to tell, the yarn is in midnight, a lovely dark navy blue. I'm hoping this will not only be a versatile cardigan, spanning many seasons, but also resistant to newspaper ink and coffee stains. (Why do those Starbucks people insist on filling the cup to the point that it is impossible to transport without spilling it all over yourself?)

Using estimations based on Lion Brand Cotton Ease, I reckon that I will need about 14 balls, which seems an awful lot, but no matter, I thought that I had 16 balls in stash, but turns out there are 18 balls, more than adequate for the cardigan and to rework the sleeves to full length. Nothing against 3/4 length sleeves, but full length are more versatile. (Why do I think that 14 balls is an awful lot? The body is knitted in one piece. I'm up to the armholes now and have only used 4 balls. I'm knitting to tension, so I reckon that if I kept the sleeves to 3/4, I would probably only need about 12 balls for the second size.)

and fruity ...? Not sewn... I couldn't help myself.. given the choice between knitting and sewing, I let my baser instincts loose. I am a really, really bad girl.

Do you think Sitcom Chic would work in Auror 8 a soft washable merino? Also, has anyone made the sleeves long? if so, did you change the rate?

Sitcom is one of all time fav patterns it knits up quickly and looks great. I have worn mine so much. You will love it. Your colour choice is great too.

ummm yeah I think you know my status on seaming anything up... I am so against finishing its not even funny :) Hopefully though I will finish Martha and I order the finishing yarn for Pretty Wrappy Top this week too :)

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can (find someone to bribe into doing it for me till I can learn how to :)

I love the pattern! Its true about the weather - I don't know what to wear each day but at least there's lots of sunshine (makes a refreshing change). I can definitely relate to your lack of sewing enthusiasm - I suffer with the same symptoms!!

Sitcom is looking beautiful. Wanted to tell you that I sent my Mother the pattern for Kiri. To date she has made 3...yes 3. Two out of KSH and one out of Helen's Lace.

She works at a yarn shop and wears the Helen's lace one a lot. 4 people have made them since she has started wearing hers. Amazing! You are a wonderful designer!

My daughter is currently on a two-week trip to London and Ireland and I asked her to bring me home some lovely wool with the express instructions to keep the colours "light!" Your midnight blue is quite lovely but I go completely cross-eyed trying to work with it. (I don't even attempt to crochet with anything dark because I can't tell where to put the hook. ) This pattern is quite cute - I shall check back to see how it progresses as I just might be making one for myself. I'm glad I stumbled onto your blog.

BTW, I don't think my daughter was quite prepared for the chilly weather y'all are having in May. We're in the deep South and it's been in the 80's here - sleeveless shirt weather.

Yes I do believe Starbucks and many other drink supplies are in cahoots all around the world with cleaners.

Just a quick note to tell you that my second kiri shawl is blocking on my sitting room floor. both were knit from the Rowan doubleknit soft that you sent me. I gave the first to my mum for Mother's day, and the second is for me. The pattern was a big hit with the women knitters in my family. Thanks again for the pattern and the wool.

Yes, the walking-with-the-overfilled-cup technique is tough to perfect:-).

Love the sweater!

Sitcom Chic has been on my mind too. I have some ASC in stash, but not 14 balls, so I'll be waiting with bated breath to see how many you use.

Sitcom Chic is going to look fantastic on you, it is growing at a rate of knots too. I agree with Amelia, you must knit in your sleep.

I think the idea of a seaming party is a wonderful idea, ease the stress of sewing up with the odd cake or three! I think that finishing instructions in patterns ought to insist on starting with "Now, first take your choccie biccies..."

I've been dying to make Sitcom Chic too. I think I will have to live vicariously through you...although I have 20 balls of a lovely ASC discontinued color in stash.....

Like the midnight blue! Have a good rest of your weekend!

I'll be interested to see exactly how many you use, as I bought the pattern a while ago and still haven't gotten around to making it, but I do have some ASC. Ameilia's seaming party sounds much more fun than doing it on your own especially if cakes are involved!

when you focus, you focus!
love the sitcom, I find asc to be too warm for Summer, but great for Spring and Autumn.

I'd better get a move on with my scoop!

Well, if you are willing to be patient and wait long enough we could have a Fruity seaming party... I will bring cakes! I can't believe the progress you are making on Sitcom Chic, you must be able to sleep and knit at the same time :D

what, you didn't do the newspaper and coffee test on your swatch before you started? ;-)

i'm happy to see i'm not the only one choosing knitting instead of sewing. sitcom chic will be lovely in asc.

Lovely! I knit a cardi from ASC in midnight -- love it. It's a great medium weight sweater and quite good at camouflaging spots and spills.
