Recently, I have noticed that Wellington boots have started to be more fun and appealing. I mean, aren't these just way cool?

Of course, the wellington boot socks market is still lagging. You can have any wellington boot socks, as long as it's green or brown.
Enter ATU to the rescue
hello... did someone say pink ? Yes, these are pink with green stripes. I know that it looks grey, but honest, it's a very soft green. So what if the muddy will show, any girl knows, pink socks are waaay more interesting than brown ones... and washing machines are very good at getting rid of mud... and so what if the pheasant can see you from a mile away.

When working knee length socks, you need to do calf shaping. I tried to disguise it in the purl stitches (which looks ok from the back of a galloping horse)

This was done using cygnet's Aran weight wool, 75% wool, 25% polyamide. They knit up really quickly and the yarn is cheap.... I mean £2.95 for 100gram. The colours are rather limited but the yarn is nice to work with and like magic, you have a wellington boot sock. Any idea on how to block them? or should I just not bother?
One down, one to go.
I LOVE the stripped wellies. About a year ago I tried to buy a pair at a small boutique here in NYC....I was told there was a 6 MONTHS WAITING LIST!!
Posted by: elisabeth at April 20, 2005 03:27 PMStripey boot socks--I love it! Very cheerful. Did you do something interesting up at the 'cuff', or is that just plain ribbing? I can't quite tell if that's texture or variegation I'm seeing.
Posted by: Beth S. at April 19, 2005 07:10 PMOhh they look like great socks I love hiking/welly socks, nice and warm and long. I have to admit I haven't worn wellies for years, I wore my red wellies constantly until I was about 7, then stopped for some reason. A couple of months ago I saw some see-through boots though and fell in love. They were in a kids size, but apparently you can get adult sized ones.
However I'll have to learn how to knit fancy socks like yours to wear inside them.
WOW - What swanky Welly socks!
Posted by: Lydia at April 19, 2005 04:10 AMlove the boots new style! And of course your socks are perfect.
Posted by: Rebekah at April 18, 2005 05:35 PMAre you talking about the Lelah pattern? If so, you can use ANY type of yarn you want on ANY needle size you want. There is directions on how to and you can go to this link here - http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=26874.0
and see some different variations using different yarn (including a gal who made it into a raglan short sleeved top!)
All you have to do is measure around underneath your armpits, above your boobs, and calculate how many st per inch to fit and then you divide that by 11 (you may need to add or subtract a few st) and the number divisible is your cast on # (using bigger needles), you'll be decreasing later and using smaller needles in the pattern for the stockinette. (so do your swatch using the smaller needles)
You can add an extra 11 or 22 st for more width on the bottom. And the elastic on the top would work well if you wanted it not as tight in the boob area. It's pretty versatile.
Wow! Sorry I just rambled on your blog! Thanks for the compliments!
I think you block them by wearing them when you and your Wellies go out in the damp.
Well done Polly. Believe it or not these boots are selling like hotcakes in Manhattan. We do have puddles but you don't often see anything on the back of a galloping horse. xoxo Kay
Posted by: Kay at April 18, 2005 04:00 PMThose boots are so cool, I love all of them!!! Love your socks too, great colour combination ;) do you have any pattern for the extra big leg, as mine??
Posted by: yuvi at April 17, 2005 11:41 PMIt said in today's paper that Marks & Spencers have sold out of their flowery wellies - I nearly bought some last month, but although useful when it is pouring, they are heavy to wear around shops - and there isn't a lot of pheasant-shooting around Chiswick. Where are you planning to wear yours, Polly?
Posted by: Jill at April 17, 2005 08:06 PMI bought some wellies yesterday, I wanted the pink with white polka dots but figured that as they were £24.99 and the green ones were only £9.99 and the intended use was on my allotment I was best getting the cheaper plain ones! :o)
I do have a pair of cranberry coloured hiking boots though for walking the dog!
Nice socks!

Posted by: Anna at April 17, 2005 04:19 PMone of my contentions with socks is that they are usually not long enough. i like to wear long socks in winter, with or without wellies/snowboots.
but your socks look just perfect, and they are so pretty! I might have to try kniting them, if you assure me it will not take an eternity.
pretty wellies too, i'll look for them if i ever decide to come back to the UK!
Brilliant Polly - you are so clever. Love the new designs on wellies right now. How things change!
Posted by: Carol at April 17, 2005 02:38 PMI'd block them inside wellies - MY wellies! I think they look excellent. I spend a lot of time in wellies.....
Posted by: Anita at April 17, 2005 10:47 AMThe socks look great Polly! I've just been talked into getting my youngest daughter a pair of pink flowery wellies for here school trip to Wales. Looks as though I'm going to have to knit her a pair of matching socks!
PS I got hers at Brantano but Next had some too!
Posted by: Gill at April 17, 2005 09:47 AMLovely wellies and socks! I like the boots on the far right! But, they are all so cute...
I wouldn't worry about blocking, socks are going to stretch and get a bit distorted when you wear them anyways!
Posted by: Dani at April 17, 2005 01:50 AMThey're too beautiful to put in wellies! I have green ones I'm afraid, but I have my heart set on a pair of pink dotted with daisies spotted whilst trainer hunting with eldest son...sigh.
Posted by: Tracy at April 16, 2005 11:20 PMWhat gorgeous wellies and socks!!! Don't bother blocking the socks, they definitely don't need it. But please spill the beans where you found those fantastic wellies.
Great colours of the socks, far more interesting than dull old brown or green ones.
Posted by: Louise at April 16, 2005 10:23 PMlove the sock! and i think that you did a most excellent job of disquising the decreases!
Posted by: marti at April 16, 2005 09:33 PMIn Finland it's Nokia boots. Yes, the huge mobile phone firm Nokia. Can you belive they used to be best known for their boots and car tires? :)
No need to block boot socks. :) As somebody already said, they get blocked on your feet.
Posted by: Kristel at April 16, 2005 08:33 PMAh, those are so cute! My wellies were green.
Posted by: Colleen at April 16, 2005 08:25 PMPlease tell me you got a pair (any pair) of those boots?!!
Love your new product line. But block socks? Don't they get blocked the right way once they're worn?
I love these. inspired to make them in aran yarn: they sound cozy and comfy and must have knitted up very quickly.
Posted by: Anna Crofton at April 16, 2005 07:26 PMThe wellie socks look great - which wellies did you get?
