Save the last dance for me

More on DC

On the drive back to NY from Alexandria, the husband noticed this. Naturally, I had to take out my camera and grab a shot. All I kept thinking was... this person MUST be a knitter and do I **know** her. The things that pray on my mind. So if it's you, 'fess up!

...voila! ..

Sockapalooza

Am I ever going to get done with the Travellers Sock? Unfortunately, I've frogged it. It was frustrating but when I got past the 36 row pattern for the cuff and into the plain part, then I noticed that I messed up one of the repeats. Once you start frogging something on 2mm needles, it's sometimes easier to just start over... and so I did.. with another pattern.

...voila! ..

This is foot #1 of the New England design, also by Nancy Bush from Knitting on the Road, also on 2.0mm. I must emphasieze that this is a more difficult pattern than it appears. You need to swatch and measure carefully before starting or you will have problems finishing off the last repeat.

This isn't a great picture but you get the point. Oh how I wished that there was more warnings before I cast on, because it could had all gone very badly. As it was, I had to improvise to get the toe cast off to work so that it might have a chance of fitting my pal's foot.

One down, one to go.

Red Scarf Project

Tango needs a blocking. Red yarn with the gold beads... very new year-ish combo. This yarn is a wonderful mercerised cotton that my Valentina, Secret Pal 2 sent me. It's a croatian cotton and can I say super or what? It's got such a silky sheen...and doesn't split at all.

...voila! ..

Here's a close-up of the lacework. I hope that I don't ruin it when I do the blocking. I've never blocked cotton before and I'm kind of tempted to use the steam iron.

...voila! ..

Just the final touches before I send it off to Lisa

Don't forget, there's still plenty of time to knit something red for the Red Scarf Project, should you feel inclined to do so. Scaves don't take long to finish and you can crank one out in just one evening.

...voila! ..

Yes, I know, red doesn't photgraph well under artificial light. I wish I can blame it on my aged camera.

Now I really must go and try and unpack at least one of my suitcases.

Do you have speed cameras with flashes in the States? if so - How many people slammed on their breaks when you were using your camera than night? Knitter or no Knitter - sounds a fun game.

I'm making the same socks for Sockapalooza! Your yarn is just beautiful. The blithe warning that "you may have to watch the chart" is nowhere near strong enough! I've finished my first and am trying to muster up the strength to cast on for the second.

and I was soooo excited, thinking that I could spot another knitter on the road.

I have heard of Hee-Haw, though never watched it... now that I'm intrigued...

thanks to everyone for clarifying this for me... never in a gazillion years would I think of Minnie Pearl.

I see a red scarf in my future, though not as gorgeously beaded of one... That is your cake my dear :)

your socks and the red scarf are beautiful, but i strongly disagree that knitting a scarf takes just one evening...
my red one is taking a lot longer..
of course, i had to frog it entirely once, about halfway through, when i realized it would be too short, and hardly ever knit these days, but still, you are a very fast knitter!

Oops, just went through the comments and see that Mary deB had the same thought about Mni Purl! Great minds think alike......Kay

Hilarious license plate. Judging by the 'How-Dee!' sign, I wonder if maybe it's not a knitter, but just a mad Minnie Pearl fan who needed to compress the spelling to fit on a license plate!!! Polly, are you too young and too much of a New Yorker to know about the Hee-Haw show and Minnie Pearl? Worth a google, as she's very funny. Ann sometimes reminds me of her (just kidding! Ann never wears a hat with the price tag on it!). I love the red scarf. xoxo Kay

My first thought was Minnie Pearl as well. But it makes me want to have a knitting related license plate tag if we ever get back to the States! :o)

I've just bought Knitting on the Road because of your socks! Beautiful scarf, I love the beads for that little bit of luxury.

Ooh, I love the sock! What yarn is that? And thanks for the tip... Those socks are on my to knit -list, at this rate sometime in 2010. ;)

Unpacking! I hate that most about coming back home. Scarf and sock look fabulous, but we've come to expect nothing less. And yes, I finally got the book, so am grateful for your warnings on the NE sock! Because I will make all of them, eventually, and unlike my plans with Scarf Style, I really will.

Do you think that it might not be a knitter, but a country music fan referring to the Grand Ole Opry and the famous tagged hatted Minnie Pearl?
