Keep on Running

Bomber

Here's my progress on the denim people knit-along...

Notice the blue-tinged needles? My hands are also this lovely shade of navy. The lighter blues don't run as much but this dark one. Nashville is particularly bad and I say that as it's been cool and cloudy and wet (typical British summer), so I don't have sweaty palms.

The sweater is deceptively simple to knit, but doing a 3x2 rib is not as easy as you'll think. I've ripped back a few times already, whenever I happen to notice a misplaced purl or knit stitch. I have to look (hard) and feel for errors if I'm not sitting under a good lamp.

I thought that a dark blue zippered cardigan might do better than an ecru one, given that I am not the world's neatest person. Dribbling coffee lids from Starbucks has ruined more than one light colour top. So, it'll be a nice, hide all the dirt kind of blue. Ohmigosh... I've become my mother! Isn't that the first sign of mental aging? choosing practicality over cosmetic considerations... I'm going to have to lie down for a while...

and just a little update on a few more people joining in...

Pretty in Purple Melanie is doing Haven
Carlene - working on bomber for her sister. I need a sister like that.

I'd like to start my Raspy in Nashville too. Is the blue gonna stay on your hands?

Polly, that much rib must have taken you all of half an hour, with James throwing water on the needles to stop them setting alight! At your speed no doubt you will have just about finished by the weekend. Us mere mortals just can't keep up.

I had to smile at you turning into your mother! It is something we all dread but it gets us in the end, there is no escape. I had to face up to that fact when I realised my heels were becoming smaller and smaller. I used to be able to walk miles and run for the bus in 4 inch heels, now I probably couldn't even balance!

I've cast on tonight and I found the denim much softer than the last lot I used some years ago. But why oh why did I decide to do Polo? I hate intarsia and have only managed to do the first intarsia row tonight. It should get easier though now that I am "set up". My siter in law wants me to make her "Louise". I should have started with that, it would be much easier (but boring?)

can't wait to have to blue bleeding on my hands, too! I'm so bad at finishing, I think that if I cast on for Bomber before finishing the cardi I'm on at the moment, I'll never be able to wear it! So it will have to wait for a few more days :-)...Nice start you've done, though!

I'm doing Denver in Nashville - and my needles are stained, too. It's sort of difficult yarn to work with - very stiff - but so far, so good. I've nearly finished one sleeve and have one pocket done.

You'll have to stone-wash it before you wear it, won't you? (Joke).

It's not the 'real' dye by any chance? BTW, have you ever done any dyeing with real indigo? That is so fascinating, to suddenly see the blue come up out of nowhere.

Hi Polly,

I will start my Bomber tonight. Hope my metal needle won't turn blue so quickly !

I started knitting Delta last week and its in Nashville too. My needles started turning blue after something like 3 rows into my swatch. Hmm, I wonder if the 'black' runs like that too?

Wow, that denim is really running. I must say that I was warned when I purchased it, but didn't realize that it would get on your needles that way.

It will be worth it though. Great pattern. And I love the way that denim knits up!
