Caterpillar

First, I want to thank everyone for their kind words on Daydream. I'm not going to point of the flaws (and there are quite a few) but just bask on your praise. Did I mention that I bumped my head today? It's gotten so big that I misjudged the distance and stood up without adequate ceiling clearance. Can I say ...O*U*C*H !!!!

Invasion

A rather large Norwegian caterpillar invaded the house, illegally sneaking through immigration, courtesy of Thos.

It needed a few days to recover from the arduous flight but once it got here, and settled down, it was like a pig in mud on a hot summer day.

Only with a full close-up, can the horror really seep in.

Although this strange creature has proven itself to be low maintenance (doesn't eat much, doesn't complain when I tell it to put another jersey on when the temperature dips and it starts shivering), what must one do to turn it into a butterfly?

Garnstudio has some trully wonderful yarns, and thanks to Rowanette Sissel, I've been able to try the Silke Tweed, Alaska and Vienna. With the exception of the Alaska, these other kind of yarns are not available in the UK. This new Italian Velvet from Thos sent is just plain weird. It's got a chenille cord and and eyelash yarn wrapped around it. It is really soft though but a bit tickly since the fine back eyelash is so light that it just moves with the slightest breeze. So I must ask for help, any ideas?

Thanks Thos! Did you know that Rowan is lauching R2 next weekend and while you might not get a caterpillar back, you're going to get on heck of a challenge coming your way soon.

Lovely animal you got there, perhaps you could knit a teddy out of it (www.ViV.DK). Or use it for cuffs on plain socks? or pencilcase(with 1000 little legs).

i had to take a second look to see this wasn't already knit up! maybe you just drape it around something. I love the Garnstudio Silke Tweed so enjoy!

I just had another idea. If you put it on your sweeper, it might possibly eat all those nasty dust bunnies:)))

You could make a caterpillar coat:) Have a look at

www.garnstudio.com/design/dam32.htm#

The coat is on the bottom right. Personally I find that the Italian Velvet looks much prettier in the hank. Once you start knitting the black eyelash takes command, and you can hardly see the beautiful colours of the chenille cord.

Just a short note from me. This is the continuation of a running jke between me and Polly, in which we send each other weird yarns. GGH PuntoLinea, Phildar TerreNeuve, Sirdar Wow and now Garnstudio Italian Velvet have sofar crossed the Channel in various directions. I look forward to your answer to this one, Polly.

Furry collar and cuffs on a simple cardigan / jacket ?
The only other thing is the ubiquitous scarf !

Good grief Polly - I hope it doesn't bite ! No knitting ideas I'm afraid but don't forget to give it a saucer of milk before you put it out for the night ...

I have a vision of your rather large caterpillar turning into one giant butterfly one of these sunny days. I'll be very interested to see what you make of it Polly, it looks as if it is going to be quite a challenge. But not one beyond your capabilities I'm sure.
